NHL Building Blocks – October 28

We kick off the week with eight games on the docket tonight.  There are a few good offenses and a few top-notch goalies, so let’s figure out where we can use those spots to our advantage.   Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – October 28
The Goalie:
Connor Ingram
Ingram will most likely be a chalky goalie on the slate as he gets the best matchup:  at home facing the lowly Sharks.  He’s been not terribly effective thus far (4-2-1. / 3.71. / .862), but you can’t argue the spot here.

The Center:  Connor Bedard
There are some higher-priced centers on the slate, but the Avs’ defense has not been good this season (allowing four goals per game), and Bedard is a solid price for his floor (a point per game on over three and a half shots per).  Cash-viable as well as a nicely-priced tournament option with his linemates.

The Wing: Mark Stone
Stone has been a revelation this season as he’s been consistently paired with Eichel and has reaped the benefit to the tune of 17 points (four goals) in nine games.

The Defenseman: Roman Josi
Josi is averaging four shots on goal and two blocks per game (to go along with five assists), and the Preds are on the road against an elite Lightning offense, so he’ll be needed in all 200 feet tonight.  Probably the best floor of any defenseman in the league.

The Value: Mason Appleton
Has points in three of his last four games (and double-digit DK points in four of eight this season), and the Jets’ third line is producing well.  Solid matchup against the Leafs tonight, so you can him as a nice one-off or as part of an inexpensive and low-owned stack.

The Stack: VGK1 (Eichel-Stone-Barbashev)
This line might just be the best in hockey right now as they’ve put up 44 points (including 14 goals) in the Golden Knights’ nine games thus far.  Calgary’s offense has been good but their defense has been average, so either way this trio is in a good spot tonight.
