NHL Building Blocks – October 27
We’ve got a four-gamer to wrap up the weekend, and while we’ve got a couple of super high-upside groupings on the slate, there are a couple of spots that could go under the radar. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – October 27
The Goalie: Jacob Markstrom
Markstrom has been solid so far in his first season with New Jersey (3-3-1 / 3.15 / .891), and on this small slate he’s got possibly the best matchup as the Ducks are on the second half of a road back-to-back.
The Center: Nico Hischier
The Devils couldn’t have asked for (or even assumed) a better start for Hischier, scoring eight goals on 39 shots and adding three helpers through his first 11 games. Anaheim’s defense isn’t threaterning at all, and he’s a nice price/production combo compared to the top-tier centermen on the slate.
The Wing: Ross Colton
Seven goals (28 shots) in eight games continuing to skate L1/PP1 with the Avs’ big boys (and he’s producing like he’s one of them so far this season). The Senators’ defense isn’t terribly impressive, so he and his linemates should get their chances.
The Defenseman: Cale Makar
Hard not to go with the league’s leading scorer (well, tied) even if he is on the blue line. 15 points (three goals) and seeing 24 and a half minutes a night.
The Value: Stefan Noesen
Continues to be too cheap for how he’s been producing spending time on PP1, scoring three goals and adding six assists in 11 games.
The Stack: NJ1 (Hischier-Meier-Mercer)
16 goals between this trio and could go a little under the radar with the Avs’ and Oilers’ top units on the slate as well, and Jersey is in just as good of a matchup. Mix in Hughes and Bratt to get more PP correlation.
