NHL Building Blocks – October 23
Another showdown tonight, this time the second half of a home-and-home back-to-back. How can we find some spots to attack and some to fade? Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – October 23
The Goalie: Logan Thompson
Thompson came over from Vegas with the hopes of taking over a net as the Caps’ #1, and he’s been acceptable so far (2-0-0 / 3.41 / .877). Philly has only scored 12 goals through their first five games, and with Washington being the home team, I lean going heavier on him.
The Center: Dylan Strome
Strome’s start to the season has been spectacular (three goals and five assists), and he and Ovechkin correlate nicely (and have developed some solid chemistry as well).
The Wing: Alex Ovechkin
Ovie finally notched his first goal of the season a couple of games ago, and his volume and production thus far have been solid (a goal and three assists through five games with 16 shots). Hopefully he can pick up the production as the season goes on as everyone is wanting him to break the record.
The Defenseman: Travis Sanheim
Sanheim is always a solid source of peripherals (he’s got eight blocks and 14 shots through five games), and he skates L1/PP1. Notched a goal last night as well.
The Value: Matvei Michkov
Might not be terribly cheap, but his upside is very nice and he’ll be fairly highly owned. Two goals and three helpers through his first five games and should be a solid source of offense.
The Stack: WAS1 (Strome-Ovechkin)
This pairing (with John Carlson) is the highest-upside grouping and will be the most popular. Still, I don’t mind being heavy on them tonight, especially at home.
