NHL Building Blocks – October 20

Small two-gamer to wrap up the weekend are on the docket tonight.  One team is the obvious, but how can we get different (or do we need to)?  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – October 20
The Goalie:
Alexander Georgiev
He’s just been so terrible this season, you have to think that positive regression is coming, and today against the lowly Sharks could be that day.  A 4.99 GAA and 1-3-0 record with a .811 save percentage all look like typos, but they’re not.  Still, their opponent is the winless Sharks, and it’s possible that he’s the highest-owned goalie on this two-gamer.   This is nothing but a matchup play as he has a good offense in front of him and his opponent is just not good.

The Center: Nathan Mackinnon
Fresh off the OT game-winner Friday night, Mac has two goals (22 shots) and seven assists in five games, and he’s got the highest upside on this two-gamer.

The Wing: Tyler Toffoli
Even though the Sharks have yet to win a game this season, Toffoli’s first season in the Bay Area has been successful so far as he’s scored four times in five games and added two helpers.  The Avs’ defense and goaltending are abysmal, so he’s got some solid upside in this one.

The Defenseman: Cale Makar
Nine points (eight helpers) in nearly 25 minutes a night through five games and continues to be all-world.

The Value: Nikolai Kovalenko
He’s seeing L2/PP2 time, and given the matchup, this could set up well as a low-priced and possibly contrarian piece of a good Avs offense.

The Stack: COL PP1 (Mackinnon-Rantanen-Mittelstadt-Colton-Makar)
Mix and match these five as they should be able to do most anything they want against a bad Sharks team.  They’re expensive and they’re the chalk, but for good reason.
