NHL Building Blocks – October 18
Small slate to start off the weekend. We’ve got a few stars in action and some underrated spots to take advantage of. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – October 18
The Goalie: Connor Hellebuyck
Small slate, but he has the best matchup facing the Sharks at home. He’s also been one of the best goalies through the first week and a half of the season, allowing two total goals over his first three starts (all wins).
The Center: Evgeni Malkin
Little renaissance perhaps here as Malkin leads the league in scoring with 11 points through just four games. Bit of a tougher matchup against the Hurricanes, though their defense isn’t as it was last season, and hockey is a sport of streaks and momentum.
The Wing: Mikko Rantanen
Through four games, Rantanen has four goals and three assists (to go along with 16 shots) and is looking like the player who scored 55 goals two seasons ago. No reason to dislike him in this matchup.
The Defenseman: Cale Makar
Hard to blame Makar for the Avs’ 0-4 start as he has a goal and seven assists while seeing just under 25 minutes a game. The Ducks aren’t anything intimidating, so his floor and ceiling are good (as is usual).
The Value: Anthony Beauvilier
Two goals and 15 shots through five games of being paired with Crosby. Solid price tonight.
The Stack: COL1 (Mackinnon-Rantanen-Colton)
Highest upside line on the slate as Anaheim’s defense isn’t anything special, and Colorado’s offense continues to have its normal high upside. Mix and match with Makar as all four are L1/PP1 together (and Mittelstadt can be a nice tertiary piece as not only is he the fifth member of PP1, but these five Avs are the only goal-scorers for the team thus far).
