NHL Building Blocks – October 16
Nice and tidy four-game tonight with some superstars in action as well as a couple of surprising players having a great first week. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – October 16
The Goalie: Connor Ingram
There might be higher-profile goalies on the slate, but Ingram has one of the better matchups as the Ducks have scored just three times in their first two games while averaging just over 26 shots. While he is 3-0 on the season, his .874 save percentage leaves room for improvement, but I don’t mind going to him here on this smaller slate.
The Center: Evgeni Malkin
Malkin has been hot to start the season, registering a goal and six assists through four games (and his seven points is tied for the early league lead). Buffalo’s defense isn’t anything special.
The Wing: David Pastrnak
A high-volume elite forward facing a horrid defense? Sign me up. Pasta has three goals and an assist through four games (as well as 15 shots on goal), and the Avs won’t be able to slow him down.
The Defenseman: Cale Makar
Highest ceiling of any defenseman on the slate (usually ever). Five assists in his first three games, and he gets a tough matchup tonight as well.
The Value: Barrett Hayton
Still way too cheap for the matchup and for his early-season production, with three goals and two assists thus far.
The Stack: UTA1 (Keller-Hayton-Schmalz)
Maybe the surprise trio of the season, but also maybe shouldn’t be as they’re young and talented; they also have 11 goals and 12 assists between them in three games and they get a good matchup tonight.
