NHL Building Blocks – October 14
Small three-gamer tonight to kick off the week. Couple of good offenses in play, but let’s see how we can get a little different from the popular ones. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – October 14
The Goalie: Sam Montembault
Montreal is playing well so far, allowing just five goals in their first three games (including Monty shutting out the rival Leafs on Opening Night). The Pens showed the last couple of games that they do still have some punch after being shut out in the season opener, but Monty is capable as he’s allowed just one goal on 72 shots over his first two starts.
The Center: Nathan Mackinnon
Goal and four assists in two games to start the season and picking right up from his Hart-winning ways last season. Possibly the highest upside on the slate, and it’s a good spot for the Avs to get right.
The Wing: Artemi Panarin
Panarin has looked every bit the superstar he is thus far, scoring twice and adding two assists in the Rangers’ first two games. They get the Red Wings tonight in the Garden, and though Detroit looked good last game, their defense continues to be a bit suspect.
The Defenseman: Noah Dobson
Two assists in 23 minutes of ice time (both leading the team) and always has a good floor, and he’ll need it tonight against the elite Avs’ offense.
The Value: Ross Colton
With Drouin out, Colton’s upside increases as he slots onto the Avs’ top power play unit, and he’s responded with a goal and an assist.
The Stack: NYR1 (Panarin-Trocheck-Lafreniere)
Three goals and four assists between this trio in the Rangers’ first three games, and they face a Detroit team that is inconsistent defensively.
