NHL Building Blocks – October 13
The season is now in full swing with the remaining teams playing their season openers. It’s a small but exciting Sunday slate for us today. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – October 13
The Goalie: Casey DeSmith
DeSmith gets his first start as a Star today after a solid single season in Vancouver (12-9-0 / 2.89 / .896), and he gets a nice defensive upgrade in front of him in Dallas. Seattle’s offense isn’t terribly scary, but they’ve got some decent talent, and they put 30 shots on net in their opener, so it’s possible he gets the same workload in this one. Dallas is on the second half of a home back-to-back, but they’re still favored in this one.
The Center: Jack Eichel
Great start to his season, registering a goal and five assists in his first two games. He looks as dialed in as he’s ever been, and the Golden Knights get a young but inexperienced Ducks team on the second half of a back-to-back.
The Wing: Ivan Barbashev
Three goals and three assists in his first two games this season, and it looks like he could be taking a big step forward. Ride the hot hand.
The Defenseman: Mackenzie Weegar
He’ll be called on in all situations against the elite Oiler offense, and I like the floor that he and the matchup provide.
The Value: Cutter Gauthier
Gauthier has all the upside in the world, and we’re seeing it a little bit this season. Cheap Ducks against a bad Oiler defense is interesting.
The Stack: VGK1 (Eichel-Barbashev-Stone)
This line is ridiculously hot through the first two games of the season (six goals and 12 assists between the three of them) and they get another good matchup today.
