NHL Building Blocks – October 12
Saturday afternoon’s slate yields the final few teams playing in their season opener, including a superstar beginning his 20th campaign with an all-time record in sight. It’s been a great start to the season thus far. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – October 12
The Goalie: Igor Shesterkin
Shesty looked great in the Rangers’ opener, stopping all 29 shots he faced in shutting out the Penguins. He now gets a Utah team that looked good in their “franchise” opener, but New York is a solid -210 favorite in this one here in the Garden.
The Center: Connor McDavid
McDavid gets a nice matchup tonight against the Blackhawks. He and the Oilers were completely shut out in their opener and they’ll want to grab back some positivity. Will be expensive, but he’s always in play.
The Wing: Alex Ovechkin
Ovie kicks off his 20th season in the league needing just 42 goals to break Gretzky’s once-unthinkable record of 891 goals. The Caps open their season at home against a Devils team that is playing its fourth game in five nights.
The Defenseman: Roman Josi
His floor is ridiculously high and he has tournament-winning upside. In the Preds’ opener he played over 29 minutes, notching an assist and taking four shots from the blueline, and Nashville gets a Detroit team that does not look to have cleaned up last season’s defensive issues.
The Value: Ross Colton
Colton sees time in all three situations, and with Drouin out, his upside increases as he is now skating on PP1. The Avs face a bad Columbus team tonight.
The Stack: EDM1 (McDavid/Hyman/Nugent-Hopkins)
It’s an expensive stack, but it will be popular (and you can even mix and match them in pairs with all of the teams on the slate).
