NHL Building Blocks – October 11
The first Friday slate of the season features a few more teams playing their season opener, including a star making his debut with his new team. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – October 11
The Goalie: Connor Hellebuyck
Could possibly have the best matchup on this small slate as the Jets have their home opener against the Blackhawks who did improve on paper during the offseason, but who are still expected to be near the bottom of the league. Hellebuyck couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season, shutting out the rival Oilers in Edmonton, stopping all 30 shots he faced.
The Center: Jack Eichel
Four assists and three shots to start the season and looking like the superstar he is.
The Wing: Jake Guentzel
Guentzel is making his Bolts debut against the team who traded for him at last season’s deadline. He’s facing the unenviable task of “replacing” long-time captain Steven Stamkos, but he’s a strong goal-scorer in his own right and will look to get off to a strong start.
The Defenseman: Quinn Hughes
Last season’s Norris winner picked up right where he left off, notching two assists and leading both teams in ice time in the Canucks’ opener. Solid option on this small slate.
The Value: Matvei Michkov
Michkov makes his NHL debut tonight and will skate on L1/PP1. He’s a highly heralded player and he’s dirt cheap at $3000 on DK (not worth it too much on FD at $6400, though).
The Stack: VGK1 (Eichel-Stone-Barbashev)
Four goals and seven assists between this trio in their season-opening victory against the Avalanche, and now they are at home against a Blues team trotting out their backup goalie. No issue going right back to them.
