NHL Building Blocks – April 6
Good six-game slate tonight with more than a few games that have strong playoff implications. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – April 6
The Goalie: Ilya Samsonov ($8400 DK / $8400 FD)
The Leafs are fifth in the East, just two points ahead of the sixth place team, and they’re facing a Canadiens team that has trouble everywhere offensively (2.73 goals per game and a 17.2% power play, both bottom-six numbers). The Leafs’ defense isn’t anything special, but given Montreal’s offensive ineptitude, there’s a path to victory for Samsonov tonight, especially as he’s won three starts in a row and has a little momentum going.
The Center: Auston Matthews ($10000 DK/ $10300 FD)
Five goals (32 shots) and two assists in his last five games and might have the highest upside tonight. 63 goals on the season (a career high) and is one point away from 100.
The Wing: Timo Meier ($5800 DK/ $7600 FD)
Three goals and four assists in his last five games and facing a bad defense. Tied for second on the team with 25 goals.
The Defenseman: Mackenzie Weegar ($6700 DK / $7600 FD)
Three goals and five assists in L5; also 12 SOG and 18 blocks and facing an elite offense.
The Value: Joel Armia ($2900 DK / $4500 FD)
Five goals and an assist in his last five games; just L2 and PK1, but streaking.
The Stack: TOR2 (Tavares-Marner-McMann)
Leafs are getting Marner back at just the right time to get him enough work before the playoffs. They’re in one of the best spots tonight facing a Canadiens team that can’t stop shots or goals. Most concentrated upside is on this line; mix in Matthews and Nylander for secondary/power play exposure.
