NHL Building Blocks – March 9

First full slate after the dust from the trade deadline settles.  We’ve got some faces on new teams in action tonight.  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – March 9
The Goalie:
Adin Hill ($8100 DK / $8300 FD)
Nice spot for Hill (15-8-2 / 2.51 / .920) and the champs at home facing the Red Wings who are the second half of a road back-to-back; additionally, they welcome Hanifin and Hertl to the lineup, both of whom will bolster a solid defense. The Wings may also still be without Larkin, which lowers their offensive ceiling.  Like him a good deal tonight.

The Center:  Auston Matthews ($9800 DK/ $10200 FD)
Great upside tonight against a sieve of a defense.  54 goals in 62 games; three points and 20 shots in his last five games and should be able to do what he wants.

The Wing:  Alex Ovechkin ($6700 DK/ $7600 FD)
May go overlooked tonight, but can’t argue the matchup; five points and 16 SOG in L5.

The Defenseman:  Noah Hanifin ($4300 DK / $5800 FD)
Great spot as he slots up onto the first pairing and will skate with Eichel as well; five points and 16 SOG in L5 and in a much better situation now with his new team.

The Value:  Hendrix Lapierre ($3500 DK / $4100 FD)
Four goals and two assists in L5 and still centering Ovie on the Caps’ top line; great matchup tonight as well.

The Stack: TOR PP1 (Matthews-Marner-Nylander-Bertuzzi)
One of the better matchups on the slate tonight as the Canadiens give up a lot of goals and even more shots.  The Leafs are third in the league in goals per game and second in power play, and they are in a prime spot tonight.  You can comfortably mix and match these four, but take the first two if wanting a smaller stack.

The Builder: TOR/VGK ML parlay
