NHL Building Blocks – March 7
Tons of great games and teams in action tonight. Lots of different ways to go, so let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – March 7
The Goalie: Ilya Sorokin ($8300 DK / $8200 FD)
Great matchup on paper for Sorokin (20-13-11 / 3.03 / .909) and the Islanders, who have suddenly won four in a row and are in the playoffs as it stands. They face the Sharks who have possibly the league’s worst offense. Sorokin has been better of late, winning three of his last five starts and only allowing 11 goals total.
The Center: Connor McDavid ($9800 DK/ $10400 FD)
Great play tonight. Two goals and eight assists in his last five games (and at least one point in 12 straight) and is one point away from another 100-point season.
The Wing: Kirill Kaprizov ($8800 DK/ $9300 FD)
29 goals to lead the team; five goals (22 SOG) and an assist in L5. Should have a ton of opportunities against a bad Coyotes team.
The Defenseman: Noah Dobson ($7200 DK / $7600 FD)
Averaging three SOG and two blocks per game to go along with averaging over a point per game. Five assists in his last five games and should be unencumbered tonight against a bad Sharks team.
The Value: Michael Bunting ($3800 DK / $4500 FD)
Too cheap for his position on PP1 facing a bad Canadiens defense; two points and 11 shots in his last five games but should have good opportunities tonight.
The Stack: EDM PP1 (McDavid/Draisaitl/Hyman/Nugent-Hopkins-Bouchard)
One of the best matchups tonight, Edmonton gets the awful Blue Jackets in Columbus. The Oilers are back at it, having won five in a row, and when they get on a roll, get out of the way (they won 16 in a row earlier this season). The Blue Jackets can’t stop the puck at all (31st in GAA and 25th in penalty killing), nor can they stop shots (third highest per game), so even though they’re expensive, roster them comfortably. They have new players coming, so even if those do see action, these are the most reliable, so mix and match (and add in Bouchard).
