NHL Building Blocks – March 20

Mid-week slate of just three games, but there’s some fun to be had in these matchups.  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – March 20
The Goalie:
 David Rittich ($8200 DK / $7800 FD)
The Kings’ defense is one of the best in the league (a tidy 2.57 goals allowed average, third best in the league, paired with the best penalty killing rate at 86.4%).  The Wild played last night (as did the Kings), but their competition tonight ramps up versus playing Anaheim last night.  Rittich (10-5-3 / 2.29 / .916) has been very good as the #2 in net, and on a small slate like this, I like him a good deal.

The Center:  Auston Matthews ($9800 DK/ $10100 FD)
Highest upside on the slate tonight (also the most expensive); 55 goals in 66 games and three in his last five.

The Wing:  Jason Robertson ($6300 DK/ $7500 FD)
Great spot tonight; two goals and five assists in his last five games and is averaging just under a point per game on the season.

The Defenseman:  Miro Heiskanen ($5700 DK / $6600 FD)
Three assists and 13 SOG in his last five games; plays all three situations and averages 24 and a half minutes per game on the season.

The Value:  Tyler Bertuzzi ($4700 DK / $4500 FD)
L1/PP1 and still too cheap for upside.  Four points in his last five games.

The Stack: DAL1 (Robertson-Hintz-Pavelski-Heiskanen)
The Stars, possessors of the league’s second best goals scored average (3.59 per game) and the eighth-ranked power play, find themselves at home facing a Coyotes team that’s won just five times in its past 23 games and is well out of the playoff race.  Dallas is looking to improve on its fourth-place spot in the West, so they should come out firing at home.  These four are on L1/PP1 together, so mix and match; Benn and Johnston are great secondary pieces to mix in.

The Builder: none
