NHL Building Blocks – March 16

Nine games on the main slate with some top offenses facing off against each other.  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – March 16
The Goalie:
 Casey DeSmith ($8500 DK / $8500 FD)
Should have a solid opportunity for a win tonight at home facing a Caps team that has really underachieved this season offensively (29th in goals scored at 2.63 per game).  Vancouver is tops in the West and will want to keep that going, and they are fairly adept defensively as well (seventh in GAA at 2.64), and DeSmith (8-4-6 / 2.91 / .899) should do well.

The Center:  Nathan Mackinnon ($10500 DK/ $10200 FD)
One of two great pay-up options tonight in a great matchup.  Five goals (28 shots) and nine assists in his last five games and is playing as well as if not better than anyone in the league, and he wants his first Hart.

The Wing:  David Pastrnak ($9600 DK/ $10000 FD)
Matchup-proof and facing a below-average defense; five points (three goals) and 21 shots in his last five games and is fourth in the league in scoring.

The Defenseman:  Quinn Hughes ($6700 DK / $7300 FD)
Too cheap for his upside tonight; goal and five assists in his past five games, and the Canucks will want to take this one to stay on top of the West.  Highest scoring defenseman in the league (76 points in 67 games).

The Value:  Thomas Bordeleau ($3500 DK / $3800 FD)
Three goals in his last five games and the Blue Jackets’ defense is horrid.

The Stack: VAN2 (Boeser-Miller)
High upside offense facing a below average defense.  Vancouver, first in the West, has won four of its last five games and is averaging over three and a half goals per game, and they are a home against a Caps team that is hanging on for dear life in the playoff race.  Mix in Pettersson and Hughes for power play exposure.

The Builder:  BOS/VAN ML parlay
