NHL Building Blocks – March 1

First day of March and we’ve got three games to kick us off.  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – March 1
The Goalie:
 Nico Daws ($8400 DK / $8300 FD)
Should be popular tonight; the Ducks played last night and won (but it was over the Sharks), so fatigue could play into things.  New Jersey needs every win they can get to stay in the playoff race, and their offense ranks in the top 10 in goals per game and power play.  Daws has been pedestrian this season, but in this one, he shouldn’t need to do a ton in order to come out on top.

The Center:  Jack Hughes ($9500 DK/ $10200 FD)
The most expensive skater on the slate, but also the highest upside; L5 he has two goals, three assists, and 33 SOG, and he should be able to do whatever he wants tonight.

The Wing:  Brady Tkachuk ($8300 DK/ $8100 FD)
Like the spot for him tonight as he’s going to have a lot of opportunities to shoot; averaging over four and a half shots per game and has five points and 21 SOG in his last five.

The Defenseman:  John Carlson ($6400 DK / $6200 FD)
Four points in his last six games and is incredibly consistent; close to 26 minutes a night in all three situations and will be needed on both sides of the ice tonight.

The Value:  Connor McMichael ($3300 DK / $4500 FD)
Four goals in L5 and sees time in all three situations.  Centering L3 but also PP2 with Ovie and Pacioretty.

The Stack: OTT2 (Tkachuk-Pinto-Tarasenko)
I like this line a lot tonight; they’ve been playing very well since they came together with Pinto in the middle, and they should be less chalky than the Devils’ top lines.  Arizona has lost 14 in a row now counting last night and hasn’t had any success on either side of the ice, so on a small slate, I don’t mind going with this stack.  Giroux and Stuetzle are nice secondary pieces (they’re paired on L1 and add onto PP1 with the first two listed).

The Builder: NJ/OTT ML parlay
