NHL Building Blocks – March 23

Seven games tonight as we continue on through this lovely March weekend.  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – March 23
The Goalie:
 Adin Hill ($DK / $8500 FD)
Should be the most popular goalie on the slate; at home versus the bad Blue Jackets who are on the second half of a road back-to-back.  Vegas is fighting for its playoff life, sitting in 8th in the West, and will want to grab a gettable victory.  Hill has been solid this season (17-10-2 / 2.65 / .914) and should continue that run tonight.

The Center:  Jack Eichel ($8200 DK/ $9200 FD)
Love the spot for him as well as the salary savings from some of the other high-priced centers.  53 points in 50 games this season; three goals and three assists (27 shots as well) in his last five games.

The Wing:  Zach Hyman ($8100 DK/ $9000 FD)
Five goals and 24 shots on goal in his last five games and in a possible shootout environment tonight; two goals away from 50 on the season.

The Defenseman:  Mattias Ekholm ($3600 DK / $5200 FD)
Three goals (15 shots) and four wo assists in his last five games; solid spot for the Oilers tonight and he’ll be needed on both sides of the ice.

The Value:  Tyler Bertuzzi ($4600 DK / $4600 FD)
Three goals and two assists in his last five games and still paired with Matthews on L1/PP1; great game environment tonight.

The Stack:  VGK1 (Eichel-Marchessault-Barbashev)
One of the best spots on paper tonight as the defending champs look to secure a playoff berth with a win over the hapless Blue Jackets.  Vegas needs some momentum as they’re currently in eighth place in the West, and their deadline acquisitions are paying dividends for them.  Columbus played last night and is out of the playoff picture in the East, so the champs should be in a good position here.  Mix in Stephenson and Karlsson as solid secondary pieces.

The Builder:  VGK/VAN ML parlay

Golden Knights center Jack Eichel (9) reacts after his shot on goal was unsuccessful during the third period of an NHL preseason hockey game against the Kings at T-Mobile Arena on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, in Las Vegas. (Ellen Schmidt/Las Vegas Review-Journal)
