NHL Building Blocks – February 8

A decently-sized slate of seven games tonight.  Some tricky matchups, but should still be fun.  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – February 8
The Goalie:
 Sergei Bobrovsky ($8500 DK / $8800 FD)
Should be popular at home facing a not-strong Capitals offense.  The Panthers have been very good defensively this season, as has Bob (23-10-2 / 2.51 / .910); Washington hasn’t really found any offensive consistency this season, ranking 30th in goals scored and finding themselves in the middle of a five-game losing streak.

The Center:  Nathan Mackinnon ($10200 DK/ $10000 FD)
12 points (eight goals) in his L5 and tied for the league lead in scoring (83 points in just 51 games); should be a positive game environment as both teams sport good offenses.

The Wing:  David Pastrnak ($9800 DK/ $9900 FD)
Ranked third in the league in goals, third in points, and first in shots on goal; matchup-proof and should be aggressive against a tough Vancouver team.  Eight goals in his past 10 games.

The Defenseman:  Noah Dobson ($7200 DK / $7500 FD)
Tough matchup against the Lightning and will be needed in both ends; incredibly high floor (52 points in 50 games to go along with 115 shots and 119 blocks).

The Value:  Jonathan Drouin ($4100 DK / $4500 FD)
L1/PP1 with the big boys in a good game environment; is viable as part of a stack or as a one-off.

The Stack:  COL1 (Mackinnon/Rantanen/Drouin/Makar)
In a positive game environment here.  Carolina’s offense is strong and their defense is solid mostly, but the Avs have an even more consistently strong offense (second in goals per game and ninth in power play).  Carolina also hasn’t played since before the break, so there could be rust involved here as well.  These four correlate at even strength and on PP1, so mix and match.

The Builder:  FLA ML and COL +1.5 parlay
