NHL Building Blocks – February 28
Two games tonight, each with some interesting spots. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – February 28
The Goalie: Igor Shesterkin ($8300 DK / $8400 FD)
Most solid matchup on paper tonight facing the bad Blue Jackets. The Rangers give up a tidy 2.73 goals per game, sixth best in the league, and they do a great job of limiting power play goals, killing them at an 82.9% rate, fourth best. Shesterkin has won his last six starts, giving up just 11 goals during that time and nabbing a shutout. Roster comfortably.
The Center: Connor McDavid ($9900 DK/ $10100 FD)
91 points in 54 games (third in the league in scoring); 10 helpers in his last five. Should have a lot of opportunities tonight.
The Wing: Pavel Buchnevich ($5600 DK/ $7100 FD)
Five goals on 14 shots in his last five games and sees time in all three situations (which will be needed against the Oilers tonight).
The Defenseman: Adam Fox ($5900 DK / $6900 FD)
Great option tonight; 47 points in 49 games and has four points in his last five games.
The Value: Kaapo Kaako ($2900 DK / $3600 FD)
Up on L1 now with Mika and Kreider; upside is increased with linemates and matchup for nearly the minimum.
The Stack: NYR1 (Zibanejad-Kreider-Fox)
Going with the top line here as a slightly cheaper option (which may give some leverage). Both Mika (three points and 18 SOG) and Kreider (three points and 19 SOG) have played well in their last five games. Panarin and Trocheck add onto the top power play line.
The Builder: none
