NHL Building Blocks – February 15
Nice and juicy slate tonight with a lot of great offenses to choose from. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – February 15
The Goalie: Jacob Markstrom ($8500 DK / $8500 FD)
Not usually viable, but with this matchup, he makes total sense. San Jose just can’t score the puck at all (averaging barely over two goals per game), and the Flames are actually decent defensively, especially down a man (the league’s third best penalty kill). Markstrom has been solid this season (17-14-2 / 2.50 / .913) and is 7-3 in his past 10, giving up just 22 total goals (and grabbing a shutout).
The Center: Connor McDavid ($9700 DK/ $10300 FD)
My favorite pay-up option at center as the Blues don’t have anyone who can stop him; an absolutely ridiculous two goals and 12 assists in his L5 and is tied for third in the league in scoring. Best player on the planet.
The Wing: David Pastrnak ($9600 DK/ $10200 FD)
Third in the league in scoring and averaging five shots per game; eight points in L5 and should be able to do what he wants against an average Seattle defense.
The Defenseman: Rasmus Dahlin ($6600 DK / $7500 FD)
41 points in 51 games; also averaging three shots and two blocks per contest. Sabres have a tough matchup against the Panthers (who did just play last night), so he’ll be needed on both sides of the ice.
The Value: Nils Hoglander ($3300 DK / $3800 FD)
Slotted up on L1 with Pettersson and Lindholm and shouldn’t need to do much to pay off his salary in this positive game environment.
The Stack: BOS1 (Pastrnak/Marchand/McAvoy)
Good spot for the Bruins tonight; Seattle’s defense is fair, but they’re just not a good team overall, and if the Bruins and their top 10 offense can do its thing, they should do well tonight. They’re a little cold, but they’re still tops in the East and want to stay there. Mix in Coyle and JVR for secondary exposure.CGY.
