NHL Building Blocks – January 9

So many great spots tonight, and a lot of studs in action as well.  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – January 9
The Goalie:
 Stuart Skinner ($8400 DK / $7900 FD)
Should have a good chance at a positive result tonight facing the Blackhawks who are just reeling, especially with losing Bedard for the foreseeable future.  The Oilers are on a roll, having won seven games in a row while allowing 13 goals total during that streak, and their goals allowed average has gotten down to 3.14, a far cry from earlier in the season.  Skinner (16-9-1 / 2.76 / .898) has been trending in the positive direction, and tonight should find him in a good spot again.

The Center:  Connor McDavid ($9600 DK / $10300 FD)
Great spot tonight as he and the Oilers face the Blackhawks.  10 points in his past five games (and at least a point in 16 of his past 17) and is up to a tie for fifth in the league in scoring.

The Wing:  William Nylander ($8700 DK/ $10100 FD)
Nylander just got paid, and against the Sharks, I think he’s going to be able to show why.  Tied for fifth in the league in scoring with 54 points and is sixth in the league in shots.  Good floor and great upside tonight.

The Defenseman:  Roman Josi ($7000 DK / $8100 FD)
Consistently one of if not the best floors for a defenseman in the league; in 40 games, he has 31 points, 131 shots (!), and 71 blocks in 24:29 of ice time.  Always playable in any format.

The Value:  Tyler Bertuzzi ($3400 DK / $4300 FD)
Skates on L2 with Nylander, who I think will want to show out tonight; good upside tonight facing the Sharks.

The Stack: EDM1 (McDavid/Hyman/Nugent-Hopkins)
The Oilers find themselves in the midst of a seven-game winning streak, and they look to continue that against the lowly Blackhawks, who just can’t seem to catch a break.  Chicago allows 3.75 goals per game, second worst in the league, and their penalty kill is almost as bad (74.6%, 27th in hockey).  Conversely, Edmonton scores 3.58 per game and has a 26.1% power play.  50 goals between these three players (including 14 with the man advantage).  Mix in Draisaitl and Bouchard for that man advantage exposure.

The Builder:  EDM/WPG ML parlay
