NHL Building Blocks – January 21

Four games on the main slate tonight, and we’ve got a few elite offenses, which always makes for some excitement.  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – January 21
The Goalie:
 Igor Shesterkin ($8400 DK / $8500 FD)
Should be popular as he will have a good opportunity for a strong result tonight.  Anaheim has one of the worst offenses in the league (2.51 goals per game) and have lost nine of their past 11 games.  The Rangers are always strong defensively (top 10 in both goals allowed per game and penalty kill), and Shesterkin shouldn’t have any issue with them tonight.

The Center:  Auston Matthews ($10000 DK/ $10400 FD)
League’s best goal scorer is always in consideration; has scored 37 goals and is on pace for close to 70, and should be in a plus matchup tonight.

The Wing:  Nikita Kucherov ($9800 DK/ $10300 FD)
League’s leading scorer facing a team with a below-average defense that gives up a ton of shots…yes, please.  75 points (28 goals) in just 44 games averaging over four shots per; part of the league’s best power play.

The Defenseman:  Adam Fox ($5300 DK / $7100 FD)
31 points in just 35 games; eight points (four goals) in his past eight games and continues to have a solid floor and ceiling in most matchups (including tonight).

The Value:  Matthew Knies ($3100 DK / $4000 FD)
Like the spot and the price for him; doesn’t have a terribly high ceiling, but has a decent floor skating with Matthews and Marner in a plus matchup; decent option for stacking or as a one-off.

The Stack: TB PP1 (Kucherov-Point-Stamkos-Paul-Hedman)
Really nice game environment tonight as two of the league’s top offenses face off.  The Lightning are in the midst of a five-game winning streak and possess the league’s top power play (30.1%), and the Wings have committed the fourth most minor penalties in the league.  These four are L1/PP together, so mix and match or stack together if you can.

The Builder:  CAR/NYR ML parlay
