NHL Building Blocks – January 13
Twelve games tonight and a lot of stars in action…should be a fun one. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – January 13
The Goalie: Connor Hellebuyck ($8300 DK / $8900 FD)
Should be popular tonight as the Jets, owners of the best team goals allowed average in hockey at 2.29, face a Flyers team that played an overtime game last night and that averages below three goals per game with an anemic 11.3% power play. Hellebuyck (21-6-3 / 2.20 / .923) is in the conversation for the Vezina, and I don’t see any reason for the same type of result tonight. Consider him in all formats.
The Center: Connor McDavid ($9700 DK / $10400FD)
Should be able to do what he wants against a Canadiens defense that gives up nearly three and a half goals per game. Nine points in his past five games and has moved up to eighth in scoring after a slow start to the season; looks every bit like the best player in the world.
The Wing: David Pastrnak ($9500 DK/ $10000FD)
Leading the league in shots with 208 in just 41 games and tied for fifth in scoring with 57 points. Matchup-proof and in a great spot tonight against the Blues.
The Defenseman: Victor Hedman ($5900 DK / $6900 FD)
Should continue to see all of the playing time he can handle (and he can handle a lot); a goal and two assists in his last five games (averaging over 27 minutes of ice time in those) and 39 points in 41 games. Good spot tonight at home against the struggling Ducks.
The Value: Jonathan Drouin ($4000 DK / $5100 FD)
Always in stack consideration skating on L1 and PP1 with the big boys; four goals and two assists in his past five games, and this game should be up-tempo with good scoring chances.
The Stack: EDM1 (McDavid/Hyman/Nugent-Hopkins)
The Oilers have a great matchup tonight against the Canadiens who rank near the bottom in most defensive categories (24th in goals allowed per game, 28th in penalty kill, and 29th in shots allowed per game). Edmonton looks like the top-flight offense we expect them to be (3.53 goals per game and a 25.4% power play). These three skate together on L1/PP1; mix in Draisaitl and Bouchard for secondary/power play exposure. Oilers are also on a nine-game winning streak.
The Builder: EDM/DAL ML parlay
