NHL Building Blocks – January 12
We’ve made it to the weekend! Two games tonight and some interesting spots to attack. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – January 12
The Goalie: Scott Wedgewood ($8100 DK / $8500 FD)
Will be popular tonight as the Stars have a strong defense and the Preds just haven’t been able to string together any sort of consistent offensive success. Nashville is hovering around average in most offensive categories, while Dallas is giving up barely over three goals per game and has the fourth best penalty kill (85.2%) in the league. If the Stars can limit their mistakes, then Wedgewood (12-4-3 / 3.11 / .895) can do well tonight.
The Center: Roope Hintz ($6600 DK / $7200 FD)
Solid contributor averaging nearly a point per game (36 points in 38 games), including a team-leading 17 goals, eight of which have come on the power play. Also kills penalties, so very nice floor. Nice spot tonight as well.
The Wing: Jason Robertson ($7000 DK/ $8400 FD)
Team leader in scoring (41 points in 40 games) and is looking every bit like the player who had 109 points (46 goals) last season; four goals in his past five games.
The Defenseman: Roman Josi ($7200 DK / $8000 FD)
Consistently one of if not the best floors for a defenseman in the league; in 41 games, he has 32 points, 131 shots (!), and 71 blocks in 24:29 of ice time. Always playable in any format.
The Value: Colton Sissons ($3600 DK / $4700 FD)
Nice salary saver for a L2/PP1 center; 12 goals and nine assists on the season, and he’ll have some decent chances tonight.
The Stack: DAL PP1 (Robertson/Pavelski/Hintz)
The Stars host the Predators tonight, who just haven’t been able to get anything going defensively this season; Saros is hard to trust, and the Dallas offense has been humming recently, moving up to the second-best goals per game average (3.68) in the league (including 11 goals in their past two games). These three skate together on L1 and PP1; mix in Duchene and Benn for not only full PP correlation but also for some L2 exposure as the top line will be chalky tonight, and Dallas has nicely balanced scoring between those lines.
The Builder: DAL ML / Flyers +1.5 parlay
