Zero to Hero:  Dominating the NHL Season with Smart Bets – October 30

Hi, all.  One more day until the spookiest day of the year….MWAHHHH!!!!!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature a few “safe” foundational plays to build some strong cash lines around as well as to offer any props or straight bets that have some solid potential.  We’re looking for players and teams that have a solid floor and are in a good spot matchup-wise; these will be the building blocks of a booming bankroll.  (Yeah, I alliterized…deal with it.)  I will also provide a recap from the day before and rewind to see if we were on the right plays.  Keep in mind that just like a regular season, the building of a solid bankroll is a grind – it requires patience, mental fortitude, and discipline to weather the cold streaks until things turn around and you go on a heater.

Recap from 10/29
Player builder:  Alex Ovechkin (two assists) ✅
Stack builder: NJ PP1 (two goals and four assists on the power play; one additional even-strength goal) ✅
Bet builder: NJ/WAS ML parlay ✅
Builder Record: 9-5; +5.45 units

THE BUILDER – OCTOBER 30
The Player Builder
:  Linus Ullmark  ($8000 DK / $8600 FD)
The Bruins have only allowed a total of 12 goals in eight games, and a big reason for that is the play of Ullmark, who is 3-0-1 with a 1.74 GAA and a .937 save percentage. The Panthers’ offense is cold at the moment, scoring under three goals per game, but they’re getting a lot of shots on net at a little over 33 each game.  When Florida does get the man advantage, their power play is not frightening anyone at 12.5%, and the Bruins possess a league-best 96.7% kill rate.  Roster Ullmark comfortably here.

The Stack Builder:  VGK PP1
Vegas is firing on all cylinders right now with a record of 8-0-1 and a goal differential of +13.  The Canadiens are giving up a league-worst 37.88 shots per game and allowing more than a quarter of power play opportunities given up to be successful.  Five of Vegas’s seven power play goals (Eichel two and Marchessault/Stone/Theodore one each) come from this line, and while the team as a whole is averaging slightly less than 30 shots a game, they’re converting at 21.8% with the man advantage.

The Bet Builder:  BOS/VGK ML parlay (found around +110)
The Bruins come into this matchup with a 7-0-1 record and a +14 goal differential, giving up just 12 goals.  David Pastrnak is doing his normal thing with 11 points in eight games (including eight goals, tied for second in the league), and Linus Ullmark is ridiculously good in net.  They are facing a Panthers offense that is banged up on the blueline and who are averaging less than three goals per game.  The line for this matchup can be found around -180.

The defending champs are faring even better than the Bruins early on, going 8-0-1 and outscoring their opponents 33-20.  This is definitely a team effort as 10 players have scored at least two goals, so opponents can’t really take a break against any line.  Adin Hill has yet to lose a game and has a 1.74 GAA so far this season.  The Golden Knights face the Canadiens who are allowing the second most shots in the league.  The line for this game can be found around -250.
