Zero to Hero: Dominating the NHL Season with Smart Bets – October 29
Hi, all. Halloween is right around the corner!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature a few “safe” foundational plays to build some strong cash lines around as well as to offer any props or straight bets that have some solid potential. We’re looking for players and teams that have a solid floor and are in a good spot matchup-wise; these will be the building blocks of a booming bankroll. (Yeah, I alliterized…deal with it.) I will also provide a recap from the day before and rewind to see if we were on the right plays. Keep in mind that just like a regular season, the building of a solid bankroll is a grind – it requires patience, mental fortitude, and discipline to weather the cold streaks until things turn around and you go on a heater.
Recap from 10/28
Player builder: Sidney Crosby (goal and assist) ✅
Stack builder: TOR PP1 (one goal and two assists on the power play) ✅

THE BUILDER – OCTOBER 29
The Player Builder: Alex Ovechkin ($8000 DK / $7700 FD)
Man, Alex the Great got off to a really slow start this season. However, he seems to have righted the ship recently and has gotten up to with two goals and four assists in seven games, and he is pretty close to looking like his old self. He gets the opportunity to build on his recent momentum by facing the winless Sharks today, a team that gives up the most shots on goal in the league, and we all know how Ovie likes to shoot the puck. All signs point to a positive result for Ovechkin.
The Stack Builder: NJ PP1 (Hughes/Toffoli/Bratt/Hischier/Hughes)
The power play for the Devils is the best in the league, hitting at a 40% rate. Going right back to this line tonight, led by Hughes (three goals), Bratt (two), and Toffoli (two). The Wild are allowing just over three power plays a game but are not good (73.2%) at killing them off. However, the bulk of New Jersey’s scoring – 12 of its 29 total goals, including eight from this line alone – comes with the man advantage, so the Devils should be able to take advantage of the Wild and keep the goals coming.
The Bet Builder: NJ / WAS ML parlay (found around +110)
The Devils’ offense is one of the best in the league, scoring over four goals per game, so that puts them in a nice place for this matchup today; additionally, New Jersey is also at home, which is another tick in their favor here on this small slate. They are facing the Wild, who have a fairly decent offense of their own, but the bulk of New Jersey’s scoring – 12 of its 29 total goals, including eight from the line above – comes with the man advantage, so the Devils should be able to take advantage of the Wild and keep the goals coming. This line can be found around -190.
The Sharks have been the “get-right” opponent so far this season as they’re absolutely horrific in all aspects. The Capitals have slowly been turning things around from their tepid start to the season and are on a small two-game winning streak, and facing the Sharks, who are averaging ONE goal per game, shouldn’t give you pause in going in on them tonight. The line for this matchup can be found around -220.
