Zero to Hero:  Dominating the NHL Season with Smart Bets – October 27

Hi, all.  Halloween is right around the corner!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature a few “safe” foundational plays to build some strong cash lines around as well as to offer any props or straight bets that have some solid potential.  We’re looking for players and teams that have a solid floor and are in a good spot matchup-wise; these will be the building blocks of a booming bankroll.  (Yeah, I alliterized…deal with it.)  I will also provide a recap from the day before and rewind to see if we were on the right plays.  Keep in mind that just like a regular season, the building of a solid bankroll is a grind – it requires patience, mental fortitude, and discipline to weather the cold streaks until things turn around and you go on a heater.

Recap from 10/26
Player builder: Kucherov (one assist on two shots – not the result we were hoping for, but still involved) ❌
Stack builder: NYR PP1 (one goal and two assists; team scored three goals total) ✅
Bet builder: BOS/TB ML (can’t believe I have to mark this as a loss – BOS had a two-goal lead with two minutes left and loses in OT) ❌
Builder Record: 7-4; +4.32 units

THE BUILDER – OCTOBER 27
The Player Builder
:   Jack Hughes ($9300 DK / $10500 FD)
The dude is on  fire right now.  Four goals and 13 assists in just seven games and seeing over 22 minutes on the ice each night, and shooting four and a half times each game to boot.  Expensive, but you can’t deny his production.

The Stack Builder:  CAR PP1 (Aho/Bunting/Necas/Jarvis/DeAngelo)
The Canes have scored the second most goals (30) in the league so far and are shooting 33 times per game, sixth highest overall. 13 of Carolina’s 30 goals have been courtesy of this quintet, with five of those coming with the man advantage, led by Jarvis’s three. The woeful Sharks, who have yet to win a game, have a -21 goal differential through seven games, and their penalty kill is not good, either, at 73.9%, and are allowing right under four opportunities per game, so this is a penalty kill that is attackable. The Canes are also very good at drawing penalties, doing so to the tune of 35 power plays, the most in the league.

The Bet Builder:  CAR ML / NJ ML (found around -115)
The Canes have scored the second most goals (30) in the league so far and are shooting 33 times per game, sixth highest overall.  The woeful Sharks, who have yet to win a game, have a -21 goal differential through seven games.  This line can be found around -380.

The Devils are scoring right at four goals per game and have a league-leading 44.1% power play.  Tyler Toffoli has been almost as hot as Jack Hughes (see above) with six goals (including one hat trick) and one assist in his past three games.  The Sabres, who are on the road in this one, have a -3 goal differential and haven’t been able to really put things together yet this season.  This game has an over/under of seven goals, and the Devils’ offense should do the bulk of the scoring in this one, carrying New Jersey to yet another one.  Vegas agrees, setting this line around -200.
