Zero to Hero: Dominating the NHL Season with Smart Bets – October 22
Hi, all. Getting closer to the last day of the month – Halloween – which always starts “the holidays.” Best time of the year…
The premise of each article in this series is to feature a few “safe” foundational plays to build some strong cash lines around as well as to offer any props or straight bets that have some solid potential. We’re looking for players and teams that have a solid floor and are in a good spot matchup-wise; these will be the building blocks of a booming bankroll. (Yeah, I alliterized…deal with it.) I will also provide a recap from the day before and rewind to see if we were on the right plays. Keep in mind that just like a regular season, the building of a solid bankroll is a grind – it requires patience, mental fortitude, and discipline to weather the cold streaks until things turn around and you go on a heater.
Recap from 10/21
Player builder: Zach Hyman (no goals, no assists, four shots, three blocks – not quite what you’d want) ❌
Stack builder: COL PP1 (three power play goals; four goals and five assists total) ✅
Bet builder: MIN/NSH ML parlay (MIN loss in OT) ❌
ML Builder Record: 5-2; +3.60 units
Prop Builder Record: 1-1; +1.05 units
THE BUILDER – OCTOBER 22
The Player Builder: Dylan Larkin ($7100 DK / $7600 FD)
This Wing is on fire. He might be taking the next step as we see it. The Wings’ captain has two goals and seven helpers in just five games to lead the 4-1 Wings. Shooting a lot as well (25 shots), but not a ton to show for it…but he’s still ridiculously productive. He seems to be doing all of what you want from your team leader and your best player. The Wings play the Flames this afternoon, who have the unenviable task of shutting down the league’s highest-scoring offense led by Larkin, its highest-scoring player.
The Stack Builder: DET PP1 (Larkin/DeBrincat/Perron/Seider/Gostisbehere)
This line is ON FIRE. 50% success rate so far this season, which is absolutely absurd. All but Perron are averaging at least a point per game (and Larkin is almost at two). SEVEN power play goals between them. However, the Flames have a 94.1% penalty kill so far this season, so something’s got to give. I lean toward the team who’s seeing the puck incredibly well. The team total for this game is _______ and Detroit implied goal total is _______, so the possibility of success from this line is fairly high.
The Bet Builder: Bruins ML / Marchand O2.5 SOG parlay (around +130)
The Bruins are taking on the lowly Ducks tonight in Anaheim. Boston has yet to lose a game and are allowing a miniscule 1.50 goals per game, whereas the Ducks are only averaging two and a half per game, and Boston has scored 13 of their own, led by David Pastrnak (5) and Brad Marchand (3). Linus Ullmark starts in net for the Bruins; he is 2-0 with a 1.00 GAA. The money line for this game is around -260.
Brad Marchand scored two goals last night and is starting to heat up. On the season, he has three goals and three assists in four games, and he is averaging over three shots on goal per game as well. The Ducks give up a little over 31 shots per game, so Marchand should have ample opportunity to put the puck on net. This prop on its own can be found for roughly -150.
