C.J. Stroud (HOU) @ Atlanta Falcons
Available in 69% of ESPN Leagues
The Texans’ rookie quarterback has been playing exceptionally well lately, with three straight weeks of scoring 20 or more fantasy points and throwing for at least 280 yards in each game. He ranks third in pass attempts and yards per attempt, fourth in passing yards, fifth in team pace of play, sixth in air yards, and tenth in passing touchdowns. If the Texans fall behind and must play catch-up, we could see the rookie quarterback throwing the ball 40 or more times.
However, the upcoming game against Atlanta may not be easy, as the Falcons have been performing well defensively against quarterbacks, allowing an average of only 15.6 fantasy points per game. It’s worth noting that this number is somewhat skewed by their first game against a rookie quarterback, Bryce Young (CAR), when they allowed 9.5 fantasy points. Removing that game, they’ve allowed an average of 18.6 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks.
If you need a quarterback, now’s the time to act, as this may be the last week Stroud is available on waivers. Consider increasing your FAAB bids and using priority waivers to secure him.
Joshua Dobbs (ARI) vs Cincinnati Bengals
Available in 98% of ESPN Leagues
Dobbs has shined brightly this season. Surprising enough, Dobbs has been the QB6-overall from Weeks 2 – 4, scoring 25.2, 17.1 and 23.4 fantasy points against teams like Dallas and San Francisco.
The rushing ability of the former Tennessee Volunteer has been the difference maker. Amongst quarterbacks he is third in rushing yards, fourth in carries, and fifth in rushing yards per game with 35.2. He has also been an accurate quarterback; he leads the league in catchable pass rate, and is fourth in QBR, pressured catchable pass rate and red zone completion percentage.
The Cardinals will be running up against the Cincinnati Bengals who are a mediocre team when defending the quarterback position. Diving deeper into advanced metrics, on average Cincy is allowing 2.1 fantasy points more than expected to quarterbacks, this is sixth worst in the NFL.
Overall, Dobbs has been an impressive fantasy quarterback. With his rushing ability and accuracy, combined with a favorable matchup against the Bengals, he’s poised to have another great game.
Sam Howell (WAS) vs Chicago Bears
Available in 82% of ESPN Leagues
Opposing offenses playing against the Chicago Bears have a good chance of success, as the team has allowed a staggering 34.2 points per game on average. Furthermore, the Bears’ defense has not been effective against quarterbacks, allowing an average of 21.6 fantasy points per game and 2.1 fantasy points above expectation, which is the sixth and second worst in the NFL.
Howell has been a streamable asset for fantasy football through four weeks. Removing his rough Week 3 performance against Buffalo, Howell is averaging 19.03 fantasy points per game. Howell ranks ninth in pass attempts, eleventh in passing yards, and has an average of 20.5 rushing yards per game.
While Howell might not be the best choice as a QB1, he carries value in Week 5 for those who are looking to stream a quarterback.
