When injury news comes out, the lines surrounding that player will remain the same for a few minutes. The best picks are the ones that come from that player’s game as these lines are likely to be too low or too high depending on which way the news breaks. These are removed quickly so it is important to stay on top of the news to get the best value picks.

PrizePicks NBA Plays for Tonight…

PJ Washington Under 3.5 ast
CHA vs NOP
The Charlotte Hornets played PJ Washington exclusively as a PF in their opener. They will be without LaMelo Ball again today. This absence does not benefit Washington’s assists at all. In fact, it actually hurts it. In 745 minutes last season without Ball, he averaged 0.31 less assists per 36 minutes. Washington played 29 minutes the first game due to blowout. He never left the court after he entered with 2:07 left in the 3rd until the bench group entered at the end. He likely is not playing more than low-30s in minutes. Washington had four assists against the Spurs but if you watch the four he was credited for, they are not sustainable. One was a fastbreak for an easy finish. Most were dependent on the shooter knocking down the shot after a simple pass. This game only has a 6pt spread, but there is a massive talent difference between the two teams.
Ben Simmons Over 6.5 rebs
BKN vs TOR
The Brooklyn Nets were blown out by the New Orleans Pelicans in their first game of the season. As a result, the starters all lost at least 4 minutes of playing time. Simmons dealt with foul trouble the entire game. He picked up his third foul with 2:49 left in the 2nd quarter. In the 3rd, he got his 5th foul with 5:31 left. Simmons then fouled out with 9:01 remaining in the 4th. In his 23 minutes of play, Simmons had 9 rebound chances. New Orleans shot 50-102 which is 49%. That is extremely high for any team. The Raptors are a solid team but you cannot expect any NBA team to shoot that well. More misses means more rebounds. Simmons should play at least 10 additional minutes than last game. This is -140 on DK.
CJ McCollum Under 4.5 rebs
NOP @ CHA
This Pelicans roster is stacked. The return of Zion Williamson alters this team drastically. McCollum was usually at 4.5 rebounds last season without Williamson. Zion and Jonas Valanciunas are going to soak up a significant share of the rebounds. Brandon Ingram and Herbert Jones also contribute on the boards. This left McCollum with only 5 rebound chances against the Nets. Somehow, he converted 4 of those. That rate is not sustainable especially for a guard. The one concern here is that the Hornets could struggle to shoot the ball. If Charlotte shoots around 40%, there are going to be plenty of rebounds to grab. We cannot assume the Hornets will shoot poorly, but we certainly would not be surprised. McCollum’s playing time was staggered where he played with Zion in both halves. The center was Larry Nance Jr, a solid rebounder as well.
Kyrie Irving Under 4.5 rebs
BKN vs TOR
Even though the Nets were blown out, Irving played a team-high 34 minutes. He had 4 rebound chances and only converted 2 of those. As stated earlier, Ben Simmons is going to play more minutes. He is one of the better rebounders on the team meaning the more time he plays, the less rebounds there will be for the other four players on the court playing alongside him. Irving is not known for his rebounding prowess. This Nets lineup consists of Kevin Durant and Nic Claxton who both can gobble up rebounds. Joe Harris will make his debut but it remains to be seen if he will start for Royce O’Neale. Irving’s rotations lined up with Claxton and Simmons in the first game. The Nets played either Claxton or Day’Ron Sharpe for the entire game. If they are going to play big, Kyrie’s rebounding chances will be limited.
