Tiger Woods Is a Billionaire! Joins Michael Jordan, LeBron James as Only Athletes to Ever Accomplish the Number

Through a checkered past, Tiger Woods still amasses enough wealth to become the third professional athlete to gain a net worth of $1 billion.

Tiger Woods Is a Billionaire! Joins Michael Jordan, LeBron James as Only Athletes to Ever Accomplish the Number

Tiger Woods is commonly regarded next to legendary names like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Sam Snead as one of the greatest PGA golfers to ever touch a club.  Now, he joins another elite club according to Forbes…

Just earlier this week, Tiger reportedly turned down another $1,000,000,000 offer from the upstart, rebellious LIV Golf Tour trying to steal PGA Tour golfers with huge signing bonuses.  As emotions swirl from golf fans about ethics, sports-washing, and sellout former tour pros, the Saudi-backed LIV Golf events kicked off this week in London.  And, the minute the players teed off, the PGA Tour suspended 17 former players leaving for the easy cash.

Tiger Woods Joins Elite Crowd of Billionaires

The other athletes known to be worth an estimated billion dollars are Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

To date, less than 10% of Woods’ earnings and net worth come from golf winnings.  Like Jordan and James, Tiger Woods parlayed his riches through endorsements with companies like Gatorade, Nike, and Rolex.  And again, like Jordan and James, Tiger is expanding into other ventures.  Michael Jordan bought the NBA franchise Charlotte Hornets.  LeBron James has bought equity stakes in a number of businesses.  Tiger Woods is launching a golf design business and restaurants.

Woods, however, hasn’t had the smoothest of sailing on the route to a billion.  A tumultuous past included a public divorce and public image hit as his fall from the top of the mountain nearly cut his then-fortune in half as a ring of affairs was uncovered that would make Hugh Hefner jealous.  Add in his lucky-to-survive 2021 car crash, and the rise to billionaire becomes a possible story for a future biography, or biographies…

Through it all, Tiger Woods has seen his wealth continue to grow anyway.  He has only made appearances in The Masters and PGA Championship in 2022, but he still made $68 million via off-course earnings since the February 2021 car accident.  That’s enough to make him the 14th highest paid athlete per Forbes.

What’s Next for Tiger?

We know it won’t be with the LIV Golf Tour.  And, we know it won’t be at the US Open in a couple weeks.  Current rumors speculate Woods declined to play the US Open for an intense lead up to the Open Championship later this summer, at the historic Old Course at St. Andrews.

With 15 major tournament wins, Tiger is 2nd only to Jack Nicklaus.  No doubt this is the legacy he remains focused on amid all the other distractions his world has offered up.
