Members had a ton of success using the Full Court Press along with various articles and tools that DFS Army provides last season, so we are glad to be back with another year of the all-inclusive article. You have to start your research somewhere, and oftentimes going game by game and breaking down every matchup and its key players is the first step in our process. My name is Mike aka @MadnessDFS on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the advice in the article. But, you’ll mostly find me in our VIP coaching forums where I provide detailed lineup maneuvers and answer all lineup questions. With that said, let’s get it started!
Philadelphia 76ers @ Miami Heat
Vegas Total: 207.5
Vegas Spread: Mia -8.5
We’ll kick this slate kicked off with the Sixers who will be without Joel Embiid again in this one. We saw Deandre Jordan get the start in game one and sounds like that will be the case again here. DraftKings was really quick to overreact to his price tag last time out but now has him under $4k again… well because he’s not really very good. Jordan simply can’t hang in this series and will be more of a GPP value than anything for me. Paul Reed is the guy I want in the frontcourt, he passes the eye test and can produce at a really nice per minute clip if he can just stay out of foul trouble. It’s a big ask given the matchup, but he put up 24 DraftKings points in just 13 minutes last time out and would’ve probably played around 25 minutes, if not more if he didn’t pick up five fouls in that 13 minutes of run. The rest of this team struggled outside of Tobias Harris who looked great on the court, but due to the price tag he carried, really wasn’t all that effective. Below is how James Harden, Tyrese Maxey, and Harris perform with Embiid off of the court this season:
- James Harden – 36.1% usage rate; 1.55 fpm
- Tobias Harris – 24.6% usage rate; 1.03 fpm
- Tyrese Maxey – 25.8% usage rate; 1.08 fpm
These rates look great on these guys but it doesn’t account for the small sample we have of all three being on the court at the same time as we should see for a good chunk of this game. Not to mention, Miami is playing lockdown defense on them making it even harder to be productive. All that said, I have no issue getting to these guys due to the increase in production, but they’ll need to play better than they did last time out, plain and simple. From the Heat, I’ll be going right back to the Bam Adebayo well, he should do whatever he wants against this Deandre Jordan/Paul Reed lead frontcourt. His price tag went up a good amount from game one, but for good reason, he’s an elite play again here. Kyle Lowry will miss this game again as Tyler Herro, PJ Tucker, Max Strus, and Gabe Vincent all come in as questionable. Keep an eye on the Breaking News Feed for updates surrounding their statuses, but I’ll operate under the assumption that they all play as we’ve seen over the past week or so. Herro had a huge game in game one and will look like a great option again here as will Jimmy Butler who will look to bounce back after a down game. Vincent should continue to start at point guard for Lowry and will be a nice mid-range option, he’s been pretty consistent in this role. Then guys like Strus and Tucker are solid filler pieces… Victor Oladipo will only be in play for me if one of these guys ends up missing which would create more minutes for him.
5-star play: Bam Adebayo
4-star play: Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, Max Strus, Gabe Vincent, James Harden, Tobias Harris, Tyrese Maxey, Paul Reed
Deeper Value: Deandre Jordan, Georges Niang
GPP Sleeper: Deandre Jordan, Georges Niang, Matisse Thybulle, Victor Oladipo
Quick shoutout to VIP member “Cenzamatic” on a massive $20k win earlier in the season! Sometimes paying up for double studs works, and Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant brought it home for him with the help of some Stanley Johnson and Pistons value. Good work and congrats man!
Dallas Mavericks @ Phoenix Suns
Vegas Total: 216.0
Vegas Spread: Pho -6.0
We’ll start this game off with the Mavericks, Luka Doncic went bonkers in game one and will need that type of production from him if they stand any shot at sneaking out of this series. He’s the top spend-up option on the slate if we can find the salary to get to him. Jalen Brunson sees a -3.9% usage rate and about 0.15 fantasy point per minute decrease with Luka on the floor but he’s this team’s second option right now and will look like a fine secondary piece on this slate. Spencer Dinwiddie would be more of a GPP guy for me, he needs the ball in his hands to get you there and with Luka soaking up all the usage, he’ll play second fiddle behind him and Brunson. Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock are pretty similar to me, we know they’re both going to play all the minutes they can handle and will look like nice filler options for your rosters. Dwight Powell will start at center and get the first crack at production but has not been good this postseason as they’ve played the hot hand between him and Maxi Kleber. Both will look like GPP values at best, but I would lean Kleber just due to his ability to knock down shots if I’m deciding between the two. From the Suns, Devin Booker came out firing in game one and will be a guy I like a lot in this one. The price tag is just too cheap for him, he has no business being cheaper than Chris Paul on both DraftKings and FanDuel. Paul is a fine option, but I’m just going to take the savings and go to Booker personally. Deandre Ayton continues to look like a solid option as well, he’s averaging 38 DraftKings points per game in three games against the Mavs this season. Mikal Bridges has been great this postseason and we know the minutes will be there for him, very solid mid-range option. Then we can round this team out with Jae Crowder and Cam Johnson who will look like solid secondary pieces at their respective price tags, both can get hot from behind the three-point line at any given moment.
5-star play: Luka Doncic, Devin Booker
4-star play: Jalen Brunson, Reggie Bullock, Dorian Finney-Smith, Chris Paul, Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder
Deeper Value: Maxi Kleber, Dwight Powell, JaVale McGee
GPP Sleeper: Spencer Dinwiddie, Maxi Kleber, Dwight Powell, Cam Johnson, JaVale McGee

NBA Lock of the Day: Devin Booker (DK – $8.2k; FD – $9.3k)
I just think this price tag is too cheap for Booker who came out firing in game one. He cooled off in the second half, but it was nice to see him return to his usual form after coming back from injury. At this point in the day, I would think he makes my core, but check out our VIP Cheat Sheets as we get closer to lock for staff picks on Core plays, 8x locks of the day, and tiers notes as well!
