DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory. Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships. Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes, Grinders, and Hard Passes!”
All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.
Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)
Hard-Pass = I’m fading in tournaments
DFS NHL Slate Overview:
Incredibly massive slate tonight with tons of ways to go; but, in reality, only one way to go. That way to go will be my second snipe, and I’m not going to spend long explaining that one; because, I think we all get the gist of it by now. Some high upside stacks I like that I will not be writing up officially are the Nashville Predators and their suave mustached man (Filip Forsberg); as well as, the Florida Panthers. If you aren’t playing my primary stack tonight, then you might as well take the opposing goalie, who is cheap and has high upside.
Snipes and Hard Passes for Tonight
Correlated Snipe #1
Jesper Bratt – Nico Hischier – Yegor Sharangovich
The young Devils are quite bad at defense and in general, but wow, do they have glorious names. These three amigos are their three best current forwards with Jack Hughes out of the lineup, and they are all three very young and talented. Hischier is a steady veteran even though he is still in his early 20’s, and he is simply a good player that throws pucks on net, and is on around a 65 point pace this season; which is pretty damned respectable, given that he has been on the Devils second line all season. Sharangovich is a wildcard type player that has a hat-trick under his belt this year; so, the upside is there, and he is the cheapest of the three amigos. Jesper Bratt is on a point per game pace this season, and I believe is a pending RFA this offseason; so, he is playing for a big paycheck currently. Bratt, without Hughes in the lineup is the best offensive forward the Devils have, and Hischier gets bumped up to be his line-mate. Oh yeah, and the Devils are playing the Coyotes who don’t even resemble a real team at this point in time.

Apr 9, 2022; Dallas, Texas, USA; New Jersey Devils center Nico Hischier (13) and center Yegor Sharangovich (17) and left wing Fabian Zetterlund (49) celebrate the game winning goal scored by Hischier against the Dallas Stars during the third period at the at American Airlines Center. Correlated Snipe #2
Auston Matthews – Mitch Marner – Michael Bunting
With how precious forward slots are in DFS, I don’t deem Bunting as a must stack with Matthews and Marner; but, he is still a solid player that compliments them well, and can score at any time. Marner has 28 freaking points in his last 13 games, and has been a top 5 forward in the world this past month, and his center is simply the Hart Trophy winner, and the best player in the entire world. Matthews has 19 goals in his last 15 games to go with 10 assists, for 29 points; not to mention he shoots the puck a ton. If Matthews scores 12 goals in his final 10 games of the season, Matthews’ final tally would be 70 goals in 77 games. Video game numbers is an understatement. They play Buffalo tonight, who cares; just take the free goals.

Hard Pass
none
believe it or not, each game is attackable for me. Maybe the Penguins vs Islanders is a little slow paced, but nothing is egregiously bad.

NHL Grinder Value Plays
Grinder #1
Ryan Johansen – Decently high upside, and the cheapest of the Predators that I told you I like a bit tonight.
Grinder #2
Matt Barzal – honestly, not a huge fan, but this is the cheapest you will ever see this guy.
Grinder #3
Anthony Duclair – Super cheap, crazy high upside on the Panthers top line with Barkov. One slow month and the entire industry disrespects him.
Grinder #4
Owen Power – Stone minimum salary on Draftkings; rookie debut, hometown game vs Toronto.
Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd. 😉
