It’s Friday you bums… Good Friday at that… And while many of you will pretend to be Christians this weekend, some of us heathens will need some extra motivation to get us through the last work-day.
Alas, our beloved Dick Vitale brings the story we all needed: Dickie V is CANCER FREE after a seven month battle! Vitale took his well deserved victory lap to twitter where he rang the infamous bell and flashed his nostalgically cheerful persona.
It was RING THE BELL TIME ! Yes it was a tough 7 months but it was super hearing Dr Brown @SMHCS say that I have zero cancer currently .I was inspired daily by the famous words of my late buddy Jimmy V “Don’t Give up DON’T EVER GIVE UP!” @amyuf @jksports @ESPNPR pic.twitter.com/uRQEzjOug2

Vitale announced “It was RING THE BELL TIME ! Yes it was a tough 7 months but it was super hearing Dr Brown @SMHCS say that I have zero cancer currently. I was inspired daily by the famous words of my late buddy Jimmy V “Don’t Give up DON’T EVER GIVE UP!”
This is the second time that our boy Dickie V has given-the-bird to one of the most tragic diseases. “Cancer just got their a** kicked” said Vitale on a USA Today interview.“[Cancer] couldn’t take my man, ‘Dickie V Baby’”
The Journey
The legendary announcer was told in October that he had been diagnosed with lymphoma. But that did not stop him from calling games.
We're so happy you're back, @DickieV ❤️

Sadly, in January, Dickie V announced that he would be stepping down for the rest of the season due to the treatments he would be receiving.
In addition to whipping cancer, Vitale also recovered from vocal cord surgery and had been without his voice for three months. “After three months of not having a voice, I felt totally trapped,” said an emotional Vitale.
The Real Legacy of Dickie V
While Vitale is a legend on screen, he is an even bigger one off of it. The 82-year-old has helped the V Foundation raise more than $36-million in his name, to-date. The V Foundation has awarded nearly $50-million in pediatric research grants and more than $250-million to cutting-edge cancer research, according to the V Foundation’s website.
Dickie V has worked in college basketball TV productions for over 40 years. He is apart of the sport whether you like him, or not, because we grew up with him in our living rooms. Plus, he started a whole wave of bad Dickie V impressions… “DUKE’S GOING TO WIN IT ALL BABY!” yelled your not-so-funny coworker during the company’s March Madness happy hour.
Needless to say, Vitale missed the electric atmospheres of games and the passion that college students bring to arenas around the country. We are happy to see you healthy Dick!
LONG LIVE DICKIE V!
