DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory. Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships. Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes, Grinders, and Hard Passes!”
All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.
Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)
Hard-Pass = I’m fading in tournaments
DFS NHL Slate Overview:
This is my first slate back since the trade deadline has passed, and there are a ton of games, a ton of new faces on new teams, as well as the Edmonton McDavid’s playing on this slate. Unheard of amount of options, where will guys slot in? Let me take you through a couple of my favorite stacks. PS; I do love the Auston Matthews line tonight, but I am not writing them up; their spot seems obvious.
Snipes and Hard Passes for Tonight

Mar 21, 2022; Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA; Minnesota Wild left wing Kirill Kaprizov (97) skates with the puck against the Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Dylan Coghlan (52) in the second period at Xcel Energy Center. Mandatory Credit: Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports
Correlated Snipe #1
Kirill Kaprizov – Mats Zuccarello – Ryan Hartman
The Wild want revenge on the Blue Jackets for their last second goal and win in Columbus a couple of weeks ago; and they are getting the Blue Jackets at a great time. Columbus is traveling from Winnipeg to Minneapolis in 1 night, and they are coming off an OT loss ( so an even later night than usual) against the Jets. Also, Joonas Korpisalo just had season ending knee surgery; so, the Blue Jackets options are either a tired Elvis Merzlikins, or an old and stiff JF Berube. Minnesota is a heavy and mean team that is not a fun time in the second game of a back to back, and this Wild team is playing playoff games for the rest of their season. Kaprizov is simply a world class talent, Hartman loves to shoot the puck, and Zuccarello has killed the Blue Jackets for an entire decade. Give me Minnesota’s top guys, at home, against a weak and wounded CBJ team that loves to give up piles of goals on the road.
Correlated Snipe #2
Alex Ovechkin – Evgeny Kuznetsov – Marcus Johansson
The Capitals are at home against the Devils and this game screams Ovechkin hat-trick to me. The Devils aren’t very good, play fast and care-free, and don’t have good goaltending. Kuznetsov and Ovechkin have been together for years, and Marcus Johansson who was acquired by trade form Seattle, has been in a Capitals jersey before. I don’t have too much to add here; it is a superior team playing an inferior team at home, and Ovechkin is always wanting to pile the goals in whenever he can with Wayne the Great’s goal record on his mind.

Hard Pass #1
Blues/Canes
2 of the deepest scoring teams going at it with good goaltending involved. I am not throwing darts blindfolded or farting in the wind here; there are tons of better spots with how many studs there are on this slate.

NHL Grinder Value Plays
Grinder #1
Alexander Romanov- The Canadiens want to build around this kid, and he is both blocking a ton of shots and chipping in offensively as of late. I personally really like this kid’s game.
Grinder#2
Alexander Barabonov- Min-priced on Draftkings, and penciled in (as of now) as a top line winger for the Sharks with Hertl and Meier. Not a bad place to be.
Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd. 😉
