DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory. Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships. Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes, Grinders, and Hard Passes!”
All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.
Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)
Hard-Pass = I’m fading in tournaments
DFS NHL Slate Overview:
Any slate with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl can be tricky, but I think there are several good spots and the Oilers stacks don’t even crack my top 5 with their situation being against Tampa Bay. The games on this slate are going to yield very high scores, so we need to pick the correct stacks to even have a chance tonight.
Snipes and Hard Passes for Tonight

Nov 16, 2021; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Calgary Flames defenseman Oliver Kylington (58) celebrates his goal with defenseman Christopher Tanev (8) and left wing Johnny Gaudreau (13) against the Philadelphia Flyers during the first period at Wells Fargo Center. Correlated Snipe #1
Elias Lindholm – Johnny Gaudreau – Matthew Tkatchuk
I am not going to spend a lot of time on this stack because at this point in time everyone essentially knows that this is one of the best lines in hockey; and frankly, I have them at number 2 behind Matthews-Marner-Bunting. This line for Calgary has 204 points in 57 games played equating to 3.6 points per game. What that means is that in general they will each get a goal or assist every game, because their line, like every line has 3 players, and 3.6 is greater than 3. Calgary is also up against the Red Wings, at home; both where Calgary dominates, not to mention that Detroit has played in some wild games so far this season with crazy outlier scores. Calgary tops my list tonight for good reason.
Correlated Snipe #2
Patrick Kane – Alex Debrincat – Dylan Strome
Here is another line that has been playing together for a while that I won’t spend too much time on. The Ottawa Senators as well as former Blackhawk goalie Anton Forsberg do not scare me at all, in fact this is a plus matchup for the Blackhawks. Dylan Strome is the least proven player on this line, and he has 2 hat tricks to his name this season; which is always, always, always, the type of upside we are looking for in tournaments. Alex Debrincat has been scoring goals in this league for a few years now, and a lot of those goals have been assisted by Patrick Kane. The Blackhawks are my second favorite stack tonight for these reasons, and they might actually have a higher ceiling than Calgary.

Hard Pass #1
No fades tonight
The worst spot is actually the Oilers vs Lightning, but I will never tell anyone to fade the superstars on either of those teams. I will go ahead in this segment and tell you that the Bruins first line of Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, and Jake Debrusk, is actually my third favorite stacking option against the Arizona Coyotes.

NHL Grinder Value Plays
Grinder #1
Ondrej Palat – Still an important player for the Lightning, and is up against the volatile Edmonton Oilers who can give up goals in piles when they see fit.
Grinder#2
Yanni Gourde – Similar to Palat, Gourde is a very important player for the Kraken, like he was for the Lightning, and he will be up against Montreal who has one of the worst teams nd goaltending situations in the league.
Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd. 😉
