DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory. Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships. Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes, Grinders, and Hard Passes!”
All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.
Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)
Hard-Pass = I’m fading in tournaments
DFS NHL Slate Overview:
Bigger slate than usual with not much superstar power at the top other than the Edmonton boys (McDavid and Draisaitl) who are on a back to back; so, this slate’s ownership should be spread out fairly widely in tournaments, which is good for us. A couple cheap options on the Stars interest me, which I will touch on, and the Filip Forsberg line is always one I will have exposure to; but, let’s jump into my 2 favorite stacks of the slate.
Snipes and Hard Passes for Tonight

Nov 16, 2021; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Calgary Flames defenseman Oliver Kylington (58) celebrates his goal with defenseman Christopher Tanev (8) and left wing Johnny Gaudreau (13) against the Philadelphia Flyers during the first period at Wells Fargo Center. Correlated Snipe #1
Johnny Gaudreau – Elias Lindholm – Matthew Tkachuk
I am going to keep this remarkably simple for you guys. These 3 have been skating with each other all season long, are all super talented in their own way, and correlate both as the top line and the top powerplay unit. The matchup against Vegas is a good one, even though Vegas is a contending team. The Vegas Golden Knights will be playing their second game of a back to back directly after the all-star break, are traveling across Canada, and their previous opponent was the Edmonton Oilers. So I am getting a top line that correlates across the board, against a tired Golden Knights team that chased Connor McDavid around all night the night prior, and potentially a backup goalie at home. Checks all my boxes.
Correlated Snipe #2
Patrick Kane – Alex Debrincat – Dylan Strome
Again, another top line that also correlates on the top powerplay unit as well. Edmonton may be at home, but they are playing their second game of a back to back, and i doubt they start Mike Smith in net again. Edmonton’s defense has been their Cryptonite all year, as well as inconsistent goaltending. Patrick Kane and Alex Debrincat have been automatic production for a few seasons now, and right before the all-star break, Dylan Strome started to find his scoring touch as well. This game is a game that could produce a lot of goals; and I know where a large percentage of the Blackhawks goals come from. go overweight of the field with this line, and bet the over on this game, and let’s make some money.

Hard Pass #1
The Kraken/Coyotes game
sure, it’s unwise to completely blacklist a game when rostering players for DFS; but, yuck, yuck, yuck. Where are the goals coming from in this game, if any goals get scored in this game? Wait. Someone has to score? Ok; but you’re picking up what I’m putting down, right? The Coyotes are on the second game of a back to back, and the Kraken don’t have a magical top line or anything. Just do whatever you want, but I’m not responsible for any lineups containing these teams.

NHL Grinder Value Plays
Grinder#1
Tyler Seguin – Simply too cheap. He is an immensely talented player when he gets in a groove, and he was in a groove right before the all-star break. The Stars are going to rely on him because he is a veteran leader on the team, and he has to play well to makeup for his atrocious cap hit. His contract is unmovable, and is one of the reasons why the Stars will be trading John Klingberg away soon; so, they are just going to live or die with Tyler Seguin
Grinder#2
Denis Gurianov -Another cheap Star who is a big part of their future. He is a talented young kid that crashes the net hard and is willing to shoot from anywhere which is what we want. If you need a cheap one-off, Gurianov could make things happen for you.
Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd. 😉
