DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory. Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships. Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes, Grinders, and Hard Passes!”
All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.
Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)
Hard-Pass = I’m fading in tournaments
DFS NHL Slate Overview:
I have to be honest here, this slate of games is pretty ugly, and unless 1 particular stack goes off, I see it being a pretty low scoring slate where anyone can win a tournament if they have players still playing. Expensive Toronto guys are there and at home, but St Louis is a pretty solid hockey team with good goaltending, so that isn’t a spot I am attacking per say.
Snipes and Hard Passes for Tonight

Correlated Snipe #1
Elias Lindholm – Johnny Gaudreau – Matthew Tkachuk
Back to the well with these 3. They have been skating together on the same line all year, are on the top powerplay unit, and are at home against the inferior Seattle Kraken. I have been picking Seattle a lot lately, but there is a method to my madness, and that is because their defense and goaltending have underperformed all year. Calgary is going to be fighting for playoff positioning all year, and they have to win their home games at the Saddledome against inferior opponents; we know that, they know that, pencil the red hot Flames line in for some goals early and often in this one. On a slate with limited upside, these guys have the highest ceiling in my opinion.
Correlated Snipe #2
Taylor Hall – David Pastrnak – Patrice Bergeron
Anton Forsberg has been a pleasant surprise this season for the Senators, but I personally think his luck will run out sooner or later. If you believe in Forsberg, then take him tonight against the Bruins without Marchand, but I am still attacking the Senators when I can, which is often on smaller slates. The Bruins top line is playing around 20 minutes a night, is their top powerplay unit, and is up against a younger and less physical Ottawa Senators team. Taylor Hall is cheap enough across the industry to just roster him no matter what, even if you cannot afford the 2 full stacks I am suggesting. On the other hand, even though Pastrnak is having a slow season for his stature; he is still producing, and we are going to want to grab him when he explodes for a hat trick and 10 shots on goal, and that can happen on any given night.

Hard Pass #1
The Coyotes/Kings game
The Kings are a veteran team on the second day of a back to back, and the Coyotes are the Coyotes. The Kings could be a popular stack, so this is kind of ballsy for me to just fade them here. I believe this is a trap game in a 82 game season for the Kings. Like I said they are a veteran team, they know they are more talented than the Coyotes, and I just think they could come out flat and take some shifts off in this one.

NHL Grinder Value Plays
Grinder #1
David Perron – He is on a cold spell right now, but is supposed to be an important piece for the Blues, and should still be on one of their powerplay units. The Leafs play in a lot of high scoring games, so Perron has a better chance than usual to fill the score sheet.
Grinder#2
Brandon Saad – Keeping the theme of cheap Blues veterans, Saad is in the exact same boat as Perron, with possibly even more upside. I say this because Saad is a streaky player and always has been; when the points come, they come in bunches.
Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd. 😉
