Swimming With Sharks
Mike Tyson once said, “everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth”, and that’s why I love this sport, there is a very low chance of me getting physically knocked out. As a result, we won’t spend too much time responding to getting punched in the face. However, before we move forward, it will benefit our discussion to unpack what a “Shark” is. A Shark can be defined as a skilled daily fantasy player. Finally, if you are reading this article and not understanding where I am coming from with organization, yesterday’s article provides you with a strong motive to up your organizational game!
Blood in the Water
I think of someone who attacks the process everyday to get better at the sport of DFS when I hear the word “Shark”. Also, this association takes me back to my time at Old Dominion University, where I served as a student assistant coach. Working as a student coach, I learned quickly the importance of a plan. Going from working in college athletics to working in high school athletics, the biggest difference between the pros and amateurs is how they account for time.

The connection
DFS and coaching professionally are different, right? Analyzing professional coach’s and their daily process will lead us to playing more like professionals. No matter the professional organization, if they are successful, they are accounting for each minute of practice. The final product is apparent as professional sports generate quite a bit of revenue and viewership. Furthermore it will benefit us to take a closer look at daily planning ideas.
- If you are new to daily planning, start with planning just 24 hours before the day you are looking to get your DFS work in. Pace yourself if you have never been a planner. Accordingly, I suggest not going all out at the beginning because that increases the risk of burnout and failure.
- Start daily planning by signing up for contests the night before and writing out your minutes for the next day to study DFS (Lunch break, early am, etc).
- Planning Example: today I have an hour, therefore I am going to spend 30 minutes looking at NFL (reading/taking notes), and I am going to save my last 30 minutes for at night when it is close to NBA lock (anyone who plays NBA a lot knows why I am doing this lol). ***Think NBA is a great tournament sport? Come convince me today by joining the DFSARMY and getting connected to everyone in the discord.
- Pen and Paper: At the beginning, I tried the spreadsheets and planning templates, but it was all like a new language to me. Furthermore, if you are just starting this out, I would suggest writing out your things to do for the day and then looking at the time you can give to your DFS game, from there set your plan.

Try to be a steak house over a diner
At a diner the food is cheap and there are several items. In contrast, a steak house has 5 things but they are all top notch. Consider this as you reflect on your planning process and avoid trying to do too much in the beginning. Andy Rondeau (Pace Univsersity, Head Football Coach/ Mentor) once said, “If you are good, you will do a few things great, but you will do a lot of things poorly if you are bad”
