DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory. Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships. Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes, Grinders, and Hard Passes!”
All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.
Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)
Hard-Pass = I’m fading in tournaments
DFS NHL Slate Overview:
Standard big slate tonight with a lot of high profile and expensive players. I wish I had more for you guys, but there are a lot of good spots tonight, and I will give you my2 favorite spots of this slate.
Snipes and Hard Passes for Tonight

Correlated Snipe #1
Alex Ovechkin – Evgeny Kuznetsov – Garnet Hathaway
Alex Ovechkin is on pace for over 50 goals in his 2 millionth season, and now he gets to play a home game against the Senators who love to give up piles of goals at a time. Kuznetsov has been playing on Ovechkin’s line most of this season with Backstrom either out or just getting back into the fold, and Kuznetsov is very good at hockey and takes attention away from Ovechkin. Hathaway is a decent power forward, but you will want to check to make sure he remains on the top line before the slate locks. I really don’t have much to add to this matchup, with the Capitals just being the superior team, and a large percentage of their goals coming from Ovechkin and company.
Correlated Snipe #2
Filip Forsberg – Matt Duchene – Mikhail Granlund
Ole reliable here. This line for the Predators has been one of my favorites all season, and for good reason. Filip Forsberg is one of the most talented hockey players in the world in my opinion, and is in a contract year. Matt Duchene is attempting to dunk on all of the haters and is having a very nice bounce back season. Granlund signed an extension during free agency and is comfortable and just throwing passes Duchene and Forsberg. The line just works well together, and if you want to go all in, you can throw Roman Josi in there as well. The Red Wings lost a heart breaker at home against the Stars where they gave up 5 goals, and on the second game of a back to back, I am betting on them giving up even more goals.

Hard Pass #1
The Blackhawks/Wild game
I don’t have a hard fade tonight, but I suggest having the least exposure to this game. They are both going back to back with a home and home series. The Wild destroyed Chicago last game, but I am having a tough time reading this game; more so than the other games.

NHL Grinder Value Plays
Grinder#1
Dylan Strome – I just said to fade the Chicago game but Strome has been skating with Patrick Kane lately, and has been on their top powerplay unit.
Grinder#2
David Savard – The shot blocking machine that is David Savard is up against a high-octane offense in the Colorado Avalanche. IE, David Savard will be blocking even more shots.
Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd. 😉
