Boston Celtics @ Washington Wizards

Vegas Total: 224.5

Vegas Spread: Wsh -2

From the Celtics, Jaylen Brown now has two games with at least 54 FanDuel points this season but man his price is up there, particularly on FanDuel and he just got called out by their coach for his lack of effort in their last game. If you’re going to get exposure to him, I would do it on DraftKings where he’s cheaper. Jayson Tatum looked good in that game against the Hornets as well which turned out to be a shootout. I just don’t know that I can stomach that price tag on a ten-game slate with other starts around his price range. I’ll continue to get to Robert Williams just because he’s a point-per-minute monster and this is a great matchup for him and all big men alike. You can throw Al Horford into that category. He has looked fantastic in games he’s played this year but they are monitoring his minutes early this season. Then you can round this team out with secondary GPP options in Marcus Smart and Dennis Schroeder.

Now for the Wizards, Bradley Beal returned and didn’t shoot well in their first meeting, but does get a solid matchup here if you’re looking to go back to him at what I would assume is low ownership on a big slate. Spencer Dinwiddie came back down to Earth with him back as well, at this price tag, I want shares of both of them as they destroyed this Celtics team last week. Kyle Kuzma has started the season looking great for this Wizards team, he did come down a little bit last time out but I like targeting wings and big men against the Celtics, so I don’t hate him as a secondary GPP option. Montrezl Harrell and Daniel Gafford continue to share this frontcourt which is going to be frustrating from a DFS perspective, on a big slate I don’t think we need to go with either of them. If Gafford is out again then Trez will likely be a core play

5-star play: Bradley Beal, Jayson Tatum

4-star play: Montrezl Harrell, Spencer Dinwiddie, Kyle Kuzma, Robert Williams, Al Horford

Deeper Value: Dennis Schroder, Marcus Smart, Daniel Gafford (if in), Deni Avdija

GPP Sleeper: Spencer Dinwiddie

Orlando Magic @ Detroit Pistons

Vegas Total: 207

Vegas Spread: Det -6

From the Magic, Cole Anthony has been really good so far this year which has caused his price to shoot up. That said, It’s hard to ignore his production right now, I have no issue with him as a secondary option. It seems as if the Magic are going to have Mo Bamba and Wendell Carter Jr. play next to each other a good bit this season. Both guys are interesting here, as I love targeting big men against this undersized frontcourt as well. I like Bamba’s fantasy production and upside a bit better, but both are in play again here. Then the last guy I really have any interest in is Jalen Suggs, he’s going to keep playing solid minutes for this team, but you can throw Franz Wagner in with him as guys that will probably be in play if you’re 150 entering. Lastly, I do like the price tag on Terence Ross for tournaments, but we know kind of know what you’re getting yourself into there.

Starting with the Pistons, it’s not fun trying to find fantasy-friendly plays on this team right now, they’re just not good. Jerami Grant led the team with a 29% usage rate last season and will likely continue at least until Cunningham comes back in a few games. Grant is generally a guy that’s going to be fairly consistent and is a solid option here, but again, not a guy that I’m forcing in by any means. Isaiah Stewart hasn’t seen the minutes we’re hoping for from a fantasy standpoint until I see those minutes come up a bit I don’t know that I’ll be all that thrilled to play him as he’s been right around 20 FPs in each game this season. Saddiq Bey has been a bright spot for the Pistons so far, he’s a guy they want to see what they have in and someone who will continue to get good run. If Grant were to miss for any reason then I’d be all over Kelly Olynyk as well.

5-star play: Jerami Grant

4-star play: Cole Anthony, Mo Bamba, Saddiq Bey

Deeper Value: Kelly Olynyk, Saddiq Bey, Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs

GPP Sleeper: Terence Ross

New York Knicks @ New Orleans Pelicans

Vegas Total: 215

Vegas Spread: Nyk -5.5

For the Knicks, they look very legit so far this year, led by their All-Star Julius Randle. He is a premier play here today, and he gets a great matchup here going up against the slow footed Valanciunas. Evan Fournier has also been a great addition and R.J. Barrett is flat out solid like we’ve come to predict from him. Mitchell Robinson should also see solid minutes here as the Knicks still have a few injuries in their front court and he’s pretty cheap on both sites. If you’re looking for guys coming off the bench, Derrick Rose is one of the best in the business, and Obi Toppin has been showing why he was drafted early last year as well.

From the Pelicans, Jonas Valanciunas kept his heater going last time out and he should feast again here as the Knicks front court is a bit undersized. The price is way up on him but for good reason, he’s a solid secondary play after the price boost but comes with a massive ceiling. Devonte’ Graham continues to look good as well and in a great matchup is a guy I like to get to here. With Zion off the court last season, Brandon Ingram was the guy you wanted with a 31.7% usage rate and 1.25 fantasy points per minute, he’s been consistent to start the season and gets a great matchup here. Nickeil Alexander-Walker is a guy I’ll go back to in this one as well, I love targeting him in fast-paced games due to the amount he shoots and he’s pretty cheap on both sites. He had a floor game last time out but was due to a poor shooting night where he went 0-7 from three and 3-14 from the field, that will regress in a good way if people are going to be off of him in tournaments.

5-star play: Julius Randle, Jonas Valanciunas

4-star play: Devonte’ Graham, Brandon Ingram, Evan Fournier, R.J. Barrett, Nickeil Alexander-Walker

Deeper Value: Mitchell Robinson, Derrick Rose, Obi Toppin

GPP Sleeper: Nickeil Alexander-Walker

Toronto Raptors @ Indiana Pacers

Vegas Total: 214.5

Vegas Spread: Ind -3.5

From the Raptors, Scottie Barnes had the worst fantasy game of his young NBA career and it just happened to happen when both sites starting to raise his price. He’s still going to play 30+ minutes here and a guy I don’t mind for GPPs in a great matchup. OG Anunoby has looked great over his last couple of games and will look to keep it going at a nice price tag here, he’s a really strong play in all formats. Fred VanVleet had his first 50 burger of the season last time out and we’ve seen guards crush the Pacers so far this season so he’s a guy I’ll go right back to here. Lastly, Precious Achiuwa has at least 25 minutes in his last three games and has looked good in those minutes, I have no issue going back to him here at what seems like too cheap of a price tag still.

For the Pacers, Domantas Sabonis has looked great to start the season with at least 40 fantasy points in each game, it’s a slower-paced game in this one but he’s matchup proof at this point. Malcolm Brogdon had his worst fantasy game of the season last time out but still didn’t kill you, I don’t love the matchup at this price tag but still, a guy that I think you need to at least consider as a secondary tournament option, however, he did miss last game so that is something to monitor again here tonight, if he were to miss again its a major boost for some of these other guys. The Myles Turner experience is a fun one, isn’t it? 64 fantasy points one game, then a combined 24 over his past two games. He’s the ultimate tournament guy as usual. Lastly, assuming LeVert is out I have no issue going back to Chris Duarte as a secondary tournament option as well, he’s looked like the real deal to start his NBA career. If Brogdon misses again you can go back to T.J. McConnell as well although he isn’t exactly cheap on either site.

5-star play: Domantas Sabonis

4-star play: OG Anunoby, Malcolm Brogdon, Myles Turner, Chris Duarte, Fred VanVleet

Deeper Value: Precious Achiuwa, T.J. McConnell, Chris Duarte

GPP Sleeper: Myles Turner

Atlanta Hawks @ Philadelphia 76ers

Vegas Total: 217.5

Vegas Spread: Phi -3

Starting with the Hawks, Trae Young has looked elite so far this year, and gets another great matchup here against the Sixers in what should be a very competitive game. Bogdan Bogdanovic has also been solid to start the year, but he’s a bit pricey on both sites. John Collins is also a really nice mid-range play, but his upside is gonna be a bit limited as long as Clint Capela is healthy, but he has looked fantastic so far this year. De’Andre Hunter returned last game as well, he’s a solid value as he was a beast when healthy last year. Him being back does hurt both Cam Reddish and Kevin Huerter.

The big news will hinge on the health of Joel Embiid as he comes in with a Q tag again. However, he had the Q tag in the past tthree games and played in all of them, but it is still something to monitor. If he is out, then this’ll be the Tobias Harris show as Simmons is out again as well, and I’ll have increased shares of Tyrese Maxey and Seth Curry as well as both have been playing north of 35 minutes. Andre Drummond is also a GTD as well here, so if him and Embiid are both out here then you can fire up Georges Niang as he’ll be one of the few big men that the Sixers have left and he did play 20 minutes off the bench last game with Drummond out. Furkan Korkmaz has also been solid off the bench if you are looking to get different.

5-star play: Joel Embiid, Trae Young

4-star play: John Collins, Tyrese Maxey, Tobias Harris, Seth Curry

Deeper Value: Clint Capela, Bogdan Bogdanovic, De’Andre Hunter, Cam Reddish, Kevin Huerter

GPP Sleeper: De’Andre Hunter

Utah Jazz @ Chicago Bulls

Vegas Total: 217

Vegas Spread: Uth -3.5

The Jazz will be led by Donovan Mitchell who is a nightmare to figure out in GPPs, but this is one of those games where he could go nuclear as this Bulls team doesn’t play much defense, he should be super low owned tonight. Rudy Gobert should also have to play big minutes here, as he’ll be the primary guy on Vucevic, and he could feast on the glass, he’s been really really good so far this year. Mike Conley has already been ruled out for this game, so that’ll put me on some shares of Joe Ingles here for sure as he tends to run the point when he is out. Bojan Bogdanovic is also always in play for GPPs if he gets hot from 3, but with the Jazz fully healthy he’s not a guy I’m huge on. Jordan Clarkson is also always in play for GPPs with his ability to score off the bench, and he’s pretty cheap on both sites as well especially considering Conley is out.

The Bulls finally went down the other night, but are still off to a hot 4-1 start, this would be a statement game for them if they can pull it out at home. They’ve been led by Zach LaVine but he had an injury 2 games ago, but it is his non-shooting hand so not too much worry there. Nikola Vucevic has been his elite self as usual, and gets a solid matchup against Gobert who allows more FPs to opposing bigs than people realize. Lonzo Ball has some nice upside but the consistency hasn’t been there per usual. Patrick Williams went down last game as well, I’m intrigued to see who takes his place tonight. DeMar Derozan is also a solid option, but with a crowded Bulls backcourt he’s not a guy I’m seeking out.

5-star play: Donovan Mitchell

4-star play: Zach LaVine, Nikola Vucevic, Lonzo Ball, Rudy Gobert, Jordan Clarkson

Deeper Value: Joe Ingles, Jordan Clarkson

GPP Sleeper: Joe Ingles, Jordan Clarkson

Miami Heat @ Memphis Grizzlies

Vegas Total: 216.5

Vegas Spread: Mem -2

From the Heat, Jimmy Butler has been on a tear and gets another good matchup in this one. I would prefer is DraftKings price tag but wouldn’t talk you off of him if you want to play him over on FanDuel. Tyler Herro had his worst game of the season last time out but it was due to a bad shooting night where he shot 16% from three and 29% from the field. If people are going to be off of him here I have no issue grabbing him at lower ownership. This leads me to Kyle Lowry, he’s more of a floor manager on this team, I’ll make him prove me wrong, which he hasn’t yet before I go back to him. I do like targeting big men against this Hornets team. Bam Adebayo is a guy I’ll get some exposure to here as well, he had a GTD tag last night but played, if he were to miss then it would make Dewayne Dedmon an elite value option. Then you can round this team out with Duncan Robinson as a GPP dart.

The Grizzlies are finally home after a brutal west coast trip where they played fantastic, this is a young team that looks to be on the rise this year. The main target here is gonna be Ja Morant as he’s been elite so far this year, and looks to be making that jump to superstar. Jaren Jackson Jr. also has all the upside in the world but doesn’t always put it together. Steven Adams should have a solid game here as well as he’ll have to bang down low with Bam all night. Desmond Bane and De’Anthony Melton are also both great plays again here, as they play big minutes and DraftKings refuses to raise their prices for whatever reason. That’s about all I want from this Grizzlies team tonight.

5-star play: Ja Morant, Jimmy Butler

4-star play: Jaren Jackson, Steven Adams, Tyler Herro, Bam Adebayo, Desmond Bane

Deeper Value: De’Anthony Melton, Dewayne Dedmon, Duncan Robinson

GPP Sleeper: Tyler Herro, Dewayne Dedmon

San Antonio Spurs @ Milwaukee Bucks

Vegas Total: 223.5

Vegas Spread: Mil -7

Starting with the Spurs, my favorite play here is going to be Derrick White, as this Bucks frontcourt is not good defensively without Jrue and FanDuel just refuses to raise his price despite great performances in each game. Dejounte Murray is also in a fine spot, but you have to pay up more for him here but he should be worth it. Keldon Johnson looks like he’s taken a nice step forward as well, but he can be a bit scoring dependent at times and he has a tougher matchup on his plate tonight with Giannis. Jakob Poeltl will also need to play big minutes here, as he’s really the only guy they have that can stop Giannis downlow, but he’s been prone to foul trouble so far this year, so if you want to get really deep you can take a shot on Drew Eubanks as well. Bryn Forbes has also been seeing some decent minutes and he could be a factor for value in this one as well.

From Milwaukee, Jrue Holiday and Brook Lopez have already been ruled out for this one. Bobby Portis will return here which would hurt the minutes for Jordan Nwora, but another case where we’ll keep an eye on the Breaking News Feed for updates, as we may see him get the start at the five with Lopez out, I would have a ton of interest in him in that scenario (I may anyway based on this price tag). With Jrue Holiday, Donte DiVincenzo and Brook Lopez off the court last season, below are how the Bucks operated:

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo – 34.9% usage rate; 1.82 fantasy points per minute
  • Khris Middleton – 32.4% usage rate; 1.11 fantasy points per minute
  • Pat Connaughton – 12.7% usage rate; 0.71 fantasy points per minute
  • Bobby Portis – 21.6% usage rate; 1.12 fantasy points per minute

They obviously didn’t have guys like George Hill and Grayson Allen last season which will impact these numbers a little bit but gives you an idea of what to expect from them. I love the matchup against the Wolves who have been playing really fast this season, so I do like these guys in what should be a game that is beneficial for DFS.

5-star play: Giannis Antetokounmpo

4-star play: Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, Jakob Poeltl, Keldon Johnson, Bobby Portis

Deeper Value: George Hill, Grayson Allen, Drew Eubanks

GPP Sleeper: Pat Connaughton

Oklahoma City Thunder @ Golden State Warriors

Vegas Total: 220.5

Vegas Spread: Gsw -12.5

From the Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s price has been all over the place and is too cheap again here. He’s a great play on both sites at this price tag with a great individual matchup against Curry. I was all over Darius Bazley last week but he just didn’t get the minutes for some reason, he’ll be strictly a GPP play moving forward for me due to his volatility. Josh Giddey continues to get it done in all areas, he’s a stat sheet stuffer and saw his DraftKings price come crashing down for this one, he’s a great mid-range option. The last guy I would have any sort of real interest in on a big slate is Lu Dort, he’s a GPP only guy due to his volatility as well, but we know he has a ceiling if he can knock down his three’s and rack up some steals.

The Warriors are getting healthy, as Stephen Curry is ready to go here to start the year, and with Klay Thompson out he should be in line for big time usage and he’s shown that over the first four games as he’s topped 50+ in each game so far this year. Draymond Green is also rock solid here, and contributes in all categories, so I prefer him more on FanDuel. James Wiseman is still out here as well, along with Jonathan Kuminga so Nemanja Bjelica and Kevon Looney will play the majority of those minutes to start. Otto Porter Jr. is a guy you can use to get different, as he is coming off the bench to start the year which does limit his upside a bit. Andrew Wiggins (who is never exciting to roster) and Curry will be the anchors in the front court. Jordan Poole is also going to have a big role here, he’s going to have a breakout game at some point soon, I can feel it in my bones.

5-star play: Stephen Curry

4-star play: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Giddey, Draymond Green

Deeper Value: Jordan Poole, Andrew Wiggins, Nemanja Bjelica, Darius Bazley

GPP Sleeper: Josh Giddey

Denver Nuggets @ Minnesota Timberwolves

Vegas Total: 221.5

Vegas Spread: Den -2.5

From the Nuggets, this is another case where we’ll need to keep an eye on the Breaking News Feed, as Nikola Jokic comes into this one as questionable, but he had a Q tag last night and played as well. I’m going to operate under the assumption that he’s in for the sake of the article, but the Breaking News Feed will have you updated with all the guys that benefit from him out if that is the case. He’s a great play against a weak Minnesota frontcourt if he’s able to go. Michael Porter Jr. looked pretty good last time out but still hasn’t found his shooting stroke, he’s on the verge of having a massive game, and think this could be the spot. The rest of this team is just tournament options for me with guys like Aaron Gordon and Will Barton but would change if Jokic were to get ruled out.

Now for the Wolves, Karl-Anthony Towns has been fantastic so far this year, but draws a tougher matchup here going up against Jokic. D’Angelo Russell was nearly impossible to get right as we got toward the back-end of the season last year and looks like he may carry that into this season going for 40 fantasy points in game one, 28 last time out and 14 in between… the full D-loading experience! He’ll be a GPP only guy due to the high-paced game and volatility. Anthony Edwards continues to see his price climb, but for good reason. He picked up right where he left off last season as one of the best young scorers in the league. I’m at the point with Malik Beasley where he’s just going to have to prove it to me before I go back to him especially on a big slate.

5-star play: Nikola Jokic, Karl-Anthony Towns

4-star play: Anthony Edwards, Michael Porter Jr.

Deeper Value: Aaron Gordon, Malik Beasley, Will Barton

GPP Sleeper: Malik Beasley

Cleveland Cavaliers @ Phoenix Suns

Vegas Total: 215.5

Vegas Spread: Phx -10

From the Cavs, Darius Garland and Collin Sexton haven’t done much this season that has really jumped off the page to me. The price tags are down relative to where they were last year and to start the season, so if you want to take a shot in GPPs you can, but I’ll likely be underweight in cash games especially against a tough Suns defense. Ricky Rubio slid back to the bench with Garland back and lost some of those starter’s minutes, and at this price tag probably not a guy I’ll get to on a big slate, but he went crazy last night so he’s in play for GPPs. Jarrett Allen had a down game last time out, but they’ll need his size in this one to help battle with Ayton down low. Evan Mobley is the guy I’m going to keep looking toward in this frontcourt. The rookie has looked more than legit to start the season and feels like there is still some meat on the bone at his current price tag. Lastly, Lauri Markkanen and Kevin Love are more of GPP type plays for me with Markkanen being closer to the cash game fringe due to his production and minutes security early on this season.

From the Suns, they’re generally not a team I get to all that often due to how spread out they can be but this is an awesome matchup for them. Devin Booker will be a GPP guy for me, we haven’t seen him pay off his price tag yet this season, but he can score in bunches when he gets it going in a great matchup. Chris Paul fell off against the Blazers after putting up 53 fantasy points against the Lakers, but it’s the same story here, just GPPs for me. DeAndre Ayton has been all over the place as well, he had a floor game last time out against the Blazers, but gets a great bounce-back spot here, so a solid secondary option at this price. Then you can round this team out with GPP darts in guys like Mikal Bridges and Jae Crowder.

5-star play: Devin Booker

4-star play: Chris Paul, DeAndre Ayton, Darius Garland, Collin Sexton, Evan Mobley

Deeper Value: Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder, Lauri Markkanen, Jarrett Allen

GPP Sleeper: Lauri Markkanen
