Charlotte Hornets @ Brooklyn Nets
Vegas Total: 231.5
Vegas Spread: Bkn -8.5
To kick off the early games, the Hornets will take on the Nets and this should be a tall task for them. The Hornets did get Terry Rozier back after he missed opening night, and LaMelo Ball already looks like he’s taken a huge leap forward in his second year in the NBA. I like both Gordon Hayward and Miles Bridges here as they’ll both play north of 30 minutes and this Nets team is not great inside. P.J. Washington and Kelly Oubre also have played heavy minutes off the bench, but really the guy I want to target here is going to be LaMelo as this should be one of the fastest paced games on the night.
Kyrie Irving will not be with the Nets for at least the start of the season. With Kyrie off the court, James Harden had a 34.9% usage rate and averaged 1.69 FPPM, while Kevin Durant had a 34% usage rate and averaged 1.61 FPPM, both will be elite options in this game. With Irving out, it should also increase the role for Joe Harris as well. The Nets have also added Paul Millsap, Patty Mills, and James Johnson who should all eat into the usage of Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge. My favorite off the radar play will be Nic Claxton as the Nets really want to continue to develop him and he saw significant minutes down the stretch last year, but overall I’ll be targeting mostly Harden and KD from the Nets. Patty Mills has also been a big guy they use off the bench and he’s leapfrogged Bruce Brown in the rotation.
5-star play: LaMelo Ball, James Harden, Kevin Durant
4-star play: Gordon Hayward, Terry Rozier, Patty Mills
Deeper Value: Patty Mills, Joe Harris, P.J. Washington
GPP Sleeper: Patty Mills

Orlando Magic @ New York Knicks
Vegas Total: 215
Vegas Spread: Nyk -12
The Magic have struggled in the beginning of the season, which is expected from a team that had a top 5 pick. Jalen Suggs is the real deal, and he’ll continue to eat into Cole Anthony’s production but both are pretty cheap here on both sites. The Knicks also just dismantled this Magic team and Franz Wagner is also going to start and play heavy minutes as well. Mo Bamba and Wendell Carter are their main big men and if you’re looking to get different Terrence Ross should play around 25 minutes off the bench, even more if this game gets out of hand.
For the Knicks, they look very legit so far this year, led by their All-Star Julius Randle. He is a premier play here today against this soft Magic interior. Evan Fournier has also been a great addition and R.J. Barrett is flat out solid like we’ve come to predict from him. Mitchell Robinson should also see solid minutes here as the Knicks still have a few injuries in their front court and he’s pretty cheap on both sites. If you’re looking for guys coming off the bench, Derrick Rose is one of the best in the business, and Obi Toppin has been showing why he was drafted early last year as well.
5-star play: Julius Randle
4-star play: Jalen Suggs, Cole Anthony, Mo Bamba, Evan Fournier, Mitchell Robinson
Deeper Value: Derrick Rose, Obi Toppin, Terrence Ross, Franz Wagner
GPP Sleeper: Franz Wagner, Terrence Ross
Boston Celtics @ Houston Rockets
Vegas Total: TBD
Vegas Spread: TBD
Here we have two teams that are struggling at the start of the year, but I think the Celtics should have the upper hand here. Starting with Jayson Tatum, he should be able to get whatever he wants in this one as the Rockets are horrible defensively and will push the pace. Jaylen Brown is a nice second option as well but I wouldn’t pair the two in the same lineup. The combo of Al Horford and Robert Williams is also solid in that front court, and both should see close to 30 minutes here as well. Lastly, Dennis Schroder should play heavy minutes off the bench here as well, and if Horford were to miss for any reason then it would put Grant Williams back into play as he started and played 28 minutes in their season opener.
For the Rockets, Christian Wood should feast again here, and he’s still decently priced after that 60 burger he put up the other night. Kevin Porter Jr. is going to be my other main target from this team, and he’s still decently priced as well. Jalen Green has looked every bit the part of the #2 pick as well and he’s pretty cheap but I’d like to see his minutes get north of 30 as well. Jae’Sean Tate has also been playing very well, he’ll be virtually unowned and Eric Gordon is the guy who leads their second unit if you’re looking to get different in GPPs.
5-star play: Jayson Tatum, Christian Wood
4-star play: Jaylen Brown, Robert Williams, Al Horford, Kevin Porter Jr., Jae’Sean Tate
Deeper Value: Jalen Green, Dennis Schroder, Eric Gordon
GPP Sleeper: Eric Gordon
Philadelphia 76ers @ Oklahoma City Thunder
Vegas Total: TBD
Vegas Spread: TBD
This game is predicted to be a blowout, but crazier things have happened in the NBA. The big news will hinge on the health of Joel Embiid as he comes in with a Q tag again. If he is out, then this’ll be the Tobias Harris show as Simmons is out again as well, and I’ll have increased shares of Tyrese Maxey and Seth Curry as well as both have been playing north of 35 minutes. Andre Drummond has also already been ruled out, so if him and Embiid are both out here then you can fire of Georges Niang as he’ll be one of the few big men that the Sixers have left. Furkan Korkmaz has also been solid off the bench if you are looking to get different.
For the Thunder, they will be in flux this year as they are super young, and they’ve gotten blown out in both games they’ve played this year. The main target here will be Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as he’s been their best young player but hasn’t been living up to the hype so far this year. Luguentz Dort is always exciting to roster in GPPs, as he could go for 10x or 1x value as consistency isn’t there yet. Darius Bazley is gonna be their main big man here as well and he’s pretty cheap on both sites. Josh Giddey is also going to be a stud and is cheap, but given the blowout issues here I don’t want to be targeting the Thunder a lot in this one.
5-star play: Tobias Harris, Joel Embiid
4-star play: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Giddey, Tyrese Maxey
Deeper Value: Seth Curry, Georges Niang, Forkan Korkmaz
GPP Sleeper: Georges Niang, Josh Giddey
Golden State Warriors @ Sacramento Kings
Vegas Total: 232
Vegas Spread: Gsw -3.5
The Warriors are getting healthy, as Stephen Curry is ready to go here to start the year, and with Klay Thompson out he should be in line for big time usage and he’s shown that over the first two games. Draymond Green is also rock solid here, and contributes in all categories, so I prefer him more on FanDuel. James Wiseman will also be out to start the year, along with Jonathan Kuminga so Nemanja Bjelica and Kevon Looney will play the majority of those minutes to start. Otto Porter Jr. is a guy you can use to get different, as he is coming off the bench to start the year. Andrew Wiggins (who is never exciting to roster) and Curry will be the anchors in the front court. Jordan Poole is also going to have a big role here, but he hasn’t been great to start the year, but the break out game is coming.
For the Kings, they look like they’ve made some major improvements offensively as Harrison Barnes has looked unworldly over their first two games, and gets to play his old team here tonight as well. De’Aaron Fox is also an elite option here as Curry doesn’t play defense, and the pace of this game will be breakneck speed. We’ll have to keep an eye on Richaun Holmes, as he should bounce back here after fouling out in only 16 minutes last game, he should feast against this Warriors front court. Davion Mitchell and Buddy Hield will be the main guys for this 2nd unit and both are moderately priced on both sites.
5-star play: Stephen Curry, De’Aaron Fox, Harrison Barnes
4-star play: Richaun Holmes, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole
Deeper Value: Nemanja Bjelica, Davion Mitchell, Buddy Hield
GPP Sleeper: Davion Mitchell

Memphis Grizzlies @ Los Angeles Lakers
Vegas Total: 220.5
Vegas Spread: Lal -6
Starting with the Grizzlies, they will be on the 2nd half of a B2B after a big win against the Clippers last night, but either way Ja Morant is going to be an elite play here going up against Russ and this Laker D. Desmond Bane and De’Anthony Melton are also still too cheap here and both are really solid plays on both sites. Jaren Jackson Jr. is also looking really good so far, but he has a tough matchup here going up against AD. Steven Adams also played really well last night, and they’ll need his big body in there against AD for sure tonight. Brandon Clarke is also playing 20+ off the bench and may be needed extra here if JJJ or Adams get into foul trouble.
For the Lakers, this will take a few games to shake out as they made a huge offseason acquisition in Russell Westbrook and he will soak up a ton of usage here and will take away from both LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but all 3 are still elite plays especially on a slate where they’ll be much lower owned than KD and Harden. AD has looked really good so far this year and he’s my favorite of the big 3. The Lakers have also added Kendrick Nunn, DeAndre Jordan, and Carmelo Anthony who will also soak up usage, but I expect those guys to run with the 2nd unit, all 3 present decent value here on a smaller slate. Rajon Rondo and Dwight Howard have also returned, and both should see significant roles early on, and I do believe Howard will see solid minutes with this 2nd unit again here tonight
5-star play: LeBron James, Ja Morant, Anthony Davis
4-star play: Desmond Bane, De’Anthony Melton, Steven Adams, Jaren Jackson Jr., Russell Westbrook
Deeper Value: Desmond Bane, Brandon Clarke, Dwight Howard
GPP Sleeper: Kendrick Nunn, Brandon Clarke
