Chicago Bears @ Cleveland Browns

Vegas odds:

Total: 46.5

Line: Cle -7.0

Rundown:

We start week 3 off with the Chicago Bears who will finally get to show off their shiny new toy in Justin Fields as Andy Dalton is unlikely to play after suffering a leg injury in week 2. The thing you’ll get with Fields that you didn’t get with Dalton is rushing upside. We’ve already seen the Bears build packages to get Fields the ball even with Dalton healthy, and when Dalton left last week, Fields ended with 10 rushing attempts. Whether those are designed rushes or Fields making something out of nothing with a broken pocket, the upside will be there. He feels a lot like Jalen Hurts when he got his opportunity last week. I don’t think I want to jump on him right away in his first career start, but something to monitor going forward and probably a guy you can a share or two of if you’re running 150 lineups. I don’t think the quarterback change really changes a whole lot in the passing game for Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney, so nothing I’m really going to overreact to there. I do think David Montgomery becomes just a little bit riskier and that’s only because I think Fields can grab some of those goal-line carries, but ultimately I think the rest of this offense will stay relatively similar… in the short term. From the Cleveland side of things, I do think you can make a stack centering around Baker Mayfield. It’s not going to be my favorite stack, or one I’ll look to in cash games, but this Bears defense has proven to be shaky early on this season. The difficult thing will be figuring out to stack with him. I do think you can throw one of the running backs into this stack if you don’t have full faith in this receiving core, Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb are very capable pass catchers. The good news (maybe) for the Browns is they’re expecting to get Odell Beckham Jr. back who is returning from an ACL injury he suffered last season. That being said, I would think he’s on some sort of snap count to start off, so probably not a guy I’m stacking with Mayfield. I do like tossing Austin Hopper in as a pass-catcher, and even a guy you can play as a one-off at tight end as a value option. You can do a lot worse at his price tag, he’s played at least 64% of the team’s snaps in both games this season and is a legitimate red-zone threat. One last thing to note from the passing game is Jarvis Landry will be out awhile, so look for Donovan Peoples-Jones to see an uptick in snap percentage and targets. Then in the running game, Nick Chubb is the guy I want even at a higher price tag than Hunt, he’s pretty matchup-proof at this point but probably won’t draw a ton of ownership.

5-star plays: None

4-star plays: Justin Fields, Allen Robinson, Baker Mayfield, Nick Chubb, Austin Hooper (value TE)

GPP Note: If you’re entering 150 lineups, you’ll probably land on one or two stacks with these two teams, but nothing that I think you need to prioritize here.

Arizona Cardinals @ Jacksonville Jaguars

Vegas odds:

Total: 52.0

Line: Ari -7.0

Rundown:

Game two gives us a higher implied total at 52, but the Cardinals are heavy favorites in this one. We’ll start with the Arizona side and it’s tough not to like Kyler Murray and this passing game right now. Murray has torched both the Tennesse and Minnesota defense, which aren’t great defenses, but guess what… neither is Jacksonville. He’s averaging an insane 36.3 DraftKings points per game in their first two games, he’s an elite play as always. You can feel pretty good about pairing him up with DeAndre Hopkins as well, with Rondale Moore looking like a promising mid-range play. I don’t hate throwing Chase Edmonds in your Murray stacks either due to his pass-catching abilities, but probably more of a DraftKings play. From the Jacksonville side, it was nice to see James Robinson’s snap count get up to 73% and a guy I like a bit more on FanDuel due to his price tag and touchdown equity. Then DraftKings is where I want to play some of these pass catchers. Arizona’s secondary is beatable if the Jags can get Lawrence some time in the pocket. Marvin Jones and Laviska Shenault are both sub $5k on DraftKings and have shown to be nice options this season. I would prefer Marvin Jones, as I think he’s the more consistent option and right now he’s the guy Lawrence is looking to most often.

5-star plays: Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins

4-star plays: Chase Edmonds, Rondale Moore, Marvin Jones, James Robinson (FanDuel)

GPP Note: The Cardinals side of this one is most certainly in play as a stack, as one-offs, as a mini-stack, etc. It’s an elite spot for them yet again and guys you can get to in cash as well.

Los Angeles Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs

Vegas odds:

Total: 55.5

Line: KC -6.5

Rundown:

This game has the highest implied total on the early slate of games and is tied for the highest total overall. Starting with the Chargers side, they didn’t explode like we thought that whole game would in week two, but it’s a great spot yet again for this offense. This Chiefs defense has shown to be average at best, Justin Herbert is firmly in play in all formats due to the number of times he’s going to throw in this offense. He has at least 40 pass attempts in both games this season and would expect him to have to throw a lot in this one as they try and keep up with the Chiefs offense. This is another team where I don’t mind using Austin Ekeler in my Chargers stacks due to his ability to catch the ball. He caught all nine of his targets in week two after going targetless in week one. Then you can go right back to the well on Keenan Allen and Mike Williams who are getting targets like they’re going out of style. Allen is currently projected to be the third-highest point per dollar play at the wide receiver position on the slate according to the Domination Station below with a 19.17 point projection.

From the Kansas City side, the Domination Station is projecting Patrick Mahomes to be the highest-scoring quarterback on DraftKings for the main slate, so it’s tough not to like him in this spot. The Ravens played Tyreek Hill really well last time out, but I’m not looking too much into that, you can go right back to the well on him. As well as Travis Kelce who has at least 25 DraftKings points in each game this season. Then we get to this running game… it’s really hard not to look at Clyde Edwards-Helaire on DraftKings where he’s $4.8k. Don’t get me wrong, he’s been bad and probably deserves this price tag. But he’s the starting running back on one of the best offenses in the league. I expect some positive regression from him and want to jump on him at this price tag on DraftKings.

5-star plays: Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Clyde Edwards-Helaire (DraftKings only), Justin Herber, Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen

4-star plays: Mike Williams

GPP Note: Both sides of this game are firmly in play due to how much fantasy gold comes with a 55 implied game total and the ability of both these offenses to put up points.

I quickly want to shout out VIP member ‘bobbywow1’ for his success in NFL DFS last season, as he took home $1,000,000 cash on the FanDuel main slate last season. I know he’s ready to put our VIP tools back to use for this season!

Washington Football Team @ Buffalo Bills

Vegas odds:

Total: 45.5

Line: Buf -8.5

Rundown:

We’ll start with the Washington side of things as they come in as pretty heavy underdogs. There really isn’t a whole lot to love on this side of the ball if I’m being honest. Antonio Gibson has a nice price tag on both sites and is a guy I’m expecting some positive regression on over the next few weeks, so he’s a guy I do like here, but the rest of this offense is pretty much a stay away for me. I think we can pretty safely jump right into the Bills side of this one. Josh Allen has the third-best point per dollar projection according to the Domination Station below on DraftKings.

He also has a top-five ceiling projection at the quarterback position as well making him a great GPP option and potentially in play for cash due to his rushing ability. Stefon Diggs makes a lot of sense to pair with him if you’re looking to stack him up, you can also take a look at Emmanuel Sanders who is a nice price tag and has seen at least 77% of snaps in both games this season. Josh Allen is one of those quarterbacks that I do think you can play naked simply because of his rushing upside, but I would probably prefer to stack him up with one of his receiving options. Then we move to this backfield which is a bit of a mess right now. Zack Moss was active in week two after being a healthy inactive in the opener. He only played 28% of snaps but it caused Devin Singletary’s snap count to drop from 75% in week one to 66% in week two. Not the biggest drop-off, but still worth noting against a good Washington defensive line.

5-star plays: Josh Allen

4-star plays: Antonio Gibson, Stefon Diggs

GPP Note: Just Antonio Gibson from the Washington side for me, then I do think you can make a case for stacking this Buffalo offense in hopes the offensive line can give Allen enough time against one of the better defensive lines in the league.

Indianapolis Colts @ Tennessee Titans

Vegas odds:

Total: 48.0

Line: TN -5.5

Rundown:

We’ll start with the Colts who may be without Carson Wentz this week as he battles an ankle injury. Meaning, Jacob Eason would be in line to handle the first-team reps if Wentz were to sit. Obviously, keep an eye on this news, but assuming Eason gets the start the Domination Station has him as the highest projected point per dollar quarterback on the DraftKings main slate due to being priced at the min. He’s $6.5k on FanDuel, so I don’t think you need to go to him over there, but he’s definitely at least interesting on DraftKings. If he allows you to get up to multiple high-end running backs and receivers, it’s hard to ignore him against a terrible Titans defense. That being said, if he’s the starter, I’m expecting a huge Jonathon Taylor week and a guy I will be all over. He’s been pretty below average to start the season, but if Eason is behind center I would think the Colts try and take a little pressure off him and hit the ground game with Taylor. People may see the game logs and look over him, but I think it’s time to buy low on him on both sites for this game. Michael Pittman and Zach Pascal are both fine options if you’re looking to stack a receiver with Eason and really save some money, but nothing I’m overly excited about. From the Titans, Derrick Henry torched the Seahawks for 50 fantasy points last week. If you’ve been reading my breakdowns or follow me on Twitter, you’ll know I’m not a huge Henry guy in DFS, but…. he’s starting to catch some passes which can take him to the RB1 type level. In his first two games, he’s gotten 10 targets while catching nine of those balls, which is absolutely huge for his PPR value. I’m not sure he’s my favorite running back on the week due to the matchup, but while he’s catching passes he’s certainly in play as a top running back option each week. Then we get into this passing game which is going to be interesting. The Colts do play really good defense, but their Achilles heel is the deep ball, and the Titans have two of the better deep ball receivers in the game with Julio Jones and AJ Brown. They’re both similarly priced on both sites which will likely lead to more Brown exposure for me, but I think they’re both firmly in play. As for Ryan Tannehill, he’s going to have to prove it to me before I go back to him as he’s started the season really slow.

5-star plays: Jonathon Taylor, Derrick Henry, AJ Brown

4-star plays: Jacob Eason (DraftKings), Julio Jones

GPP Note: I don’t think I’ll full-stack either side of this one, but I would lean the Titans side if I were to go that route. It just means trusting Tannehill a bit more than I want to against a good defense.

Cincinnati Bengals @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Vegas odds:

Total: 44.0

Line: Pit -4.0

Rundown:

The game total on this one kind of sucks, but I think we’ll be pleasantly surprised with a few one-offs from this one. I’m not going to really fully stack either side of this but we’ll start with some plays I think we can get to from the Bengals. It’s pretty much just the receivers here for me. Tee Higgins, Ja’Marr Chase, and even Tyler Boyd are in play at their respective price tags here. You can probably talk yourself onto some Joe Mixon, but this is a tough defense to run on. That being said, it’s hard to argue with a running back that has at least 21 touches in each of the first two weeks of the season. Then from the Pittsburgh side, it’s kind of the opposite, I’ll have more interest in the running back, Najee Harris, than the receivers but there’s a scenario where those wide-outs will come into play. Harris looks the part of an NFL running back and has played at least 95% of the snaps in each game this season, he’s a workhorse and a guy I like again here. Then we get to the receiving game which is a question mark at this point. Ben Roethlisberger is looking more washed up than ever and Diontae Johnson seems to be dealing with a fairly impactful knee injury. If Johnson were to miss, both Juju Smith-Shuster and Chase Claypool should be in line for more targets. Johnson receives the most targets on this team, so it would be a pretty impactful piece of news we’re waiting on here especially against a bad Bengals defense.

5-star plays: Najee Harris

4-star plays: Tee Higgins, Ja’Marr Chase, Diontae Johnson (if active), Juju Smith-Shuster, Chase Claypool

GPP Note: I probably won’t be fully stacking either of these offenses as I’ve mentioned, but there are a good amount of one-offs you can look at here.

Check out Geek’s “First Look Lineup” construction video as well as you prepare for week 3!

New Orleans Saints @ New England Patriots

Vegas odds:

Total: 42.0

Line: NE -3.0

Rundown:

This game comes in as the second-lowest implied total on the slate, so you can assume we won’t be stacking up either side of this one all that much, but there are a few interesting one-offs even against these tough defenses. We’ll start on the Saints side of things where I think it’s one man, and one man only, Alvin Kamara. Kamara had a really bad week last week with just eight rushing attempts as the Saints were down pretty much all game long. He did rack up six targets but he didn’t do enough with them to salvage his day. He did get a price decrease which will help play him in this one, but honestly, he’s always going to be in play for me as a GPP guy at the very least and I think that’s the case here. He’s not at enough of a discount where I really want to fire too much on him, but I’ll definitely get some GPP exposure due to the ceiling he has, week in and week out. After Kamara, there really isn’t anything else I want from the Saints, the Patriots play really well against the pass, and let’s face it, Jameis Winston doesn’t have anyone to throw to right now. From the Patriots, it’s a similar story, it’s the running back and that’s about it. Damien Harris has proven he can be a workhorse in this league and isn’t priced like it yet. That being said, the Research Station shows the Saints rank 1st in the league in DvP against opposing running backs, so he’s really not a guy I’m going all that heavy on here either. Mac Jones and this passing game just aren’t doing enough to warrant consideration against this Saints defense. The last piece that I think is going to be in play pretty much every week on DraftKings is James White. You can pencil him in for 5-8 targets on a weekly basis and has at least six in each of their first two games, if he happens to sneak into the endzone it’s icing on the cake.

5-star plays: None

4-star plays: Alvin Kamara, James White

GPP Note: This is pretty much a stay-away game for me outside of the pass-catching backs.

Atlanta Falcons @ New York Giants

Vegas odds:

Total: 48.5

Line: NYG -3.0

Rundown:

It’s somewhat surprising to see the Giants favored in a game, but they’re at home and is a testament to how bad the Falcons are this season. We’ll start with the Falcons, and I think Matt Ryan and his receiving options are somewhat intriguing. The price on Ryan is all the way down to $5.4k on DraftKings and $7.1k on FanDuel, obviously, I prefer the price tag on DraftKings but I still think you can look at him if MME’ing on FanDuel. He had a bad week one but bounced back against a good Tampa defense for 22.3 DraftKings points last week. He got Calvin Ridley going as well with 63 yards and a touchdown. This Giants defense was scorched by Terry McLaurin last week, so I have no issue with a Ryan/Ridley stack especially on DraftKings. I don’t hate throwing Kyle Pitts in there either and getting your tight end out of the way. Pitts played 79% of snaps last week and should continue to see a solid amount of looks in this Falcons passing game. I don’t think I want anyone in this running game from Atlanta, but if I did it would be Cordarrelle Patterson on DraftKings and Mike Davis on FanDuel. I just think Patterson has a higher likelihood of catching 5-8 balls whereas Davis is going to be the goal-line back. From the Giants, Daniel Jones is putting up really solid fantasy numbers right now. He’s getting a lot of security from his legs, rushing for a touchdown in each of his first two games. This Atlanta defense has proven to be pretty terrible, so I have no issue going right back to Danny Dimes here. One guy that has started the season slow, but I think is a strong candidate to break out this week is his wide-out Kenny Golladay. We say Golladay get into a screaming match with offensive coordinator Jason Garrett on Thursday Night Football last week, and I think the squeaky wheel is going to get some grease in this one. Love Golladay as a GPP guy and might even be in play for cash games at his price tag on DraftKings and FanDuel. Now… time to spit some Saquon Barkley facts. He played just 48% of snaps in week one, then turned around on a short week to play 84% of snaps on Thursday Night Football last week. Now he gets extended rest and a bad Falcons defense, WHERE DO I SIGN UP?!?! The production wasn’t there in week two despite an increased snap share but also had to deal with a pretty legitimate Washington defensive line. I want to be on the Barkley train before it takes off, and think this is the week to buy-in. Lastly, Sterling Shepard feels like a solid option as well after receiving another 10 targets last week, no issue with getting a share or two of him.

5-star plays: Calvin Ridley, Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay

4-star plays: Matt Ryan, Kyle Pitts, Sterling Shepard, Daniel Jones

GPP Note: Overall, this is going to be a fun game for DFS purposes and guys like Barkley and Golladay are pieces I’ll be overweight the field on, but can see stacking up both sides of this one in GPPs.

Baltimore Ravens @ Detroit Lions

Vegas odds:

Total: 50.0

Line: Bal -8.0

Rundown:

We finish off the early slate of games starting with the Ravens coming off a big week against the Chiefs last time out. Lamar Jackson looks to be a really strong option here at his price tag on both sites. He had a massive game against the Chiefs last week and gets a bad Lions defense that the Packers just destroyed last week. Jackson should be able to do what he wants both in the air and on the ground in this one. No issue running him out there naked against this defense, or pairing him up with a Hollywood Brown or Mark Andrews. The Ravens made it a point to work on Jackson throwing the ball more in the offseason and so far it’s proven right with Brown having a big first couple of weeks. Mark Andrews hasn’t been as productive, but the price tag has gotten too low on him, I’ll take a flyer. As for the running game, it appears it’s slowly becoming the Latavius Murray show. Ty’Son Williams saw his snap percentage drop to under 50% last week while Murray got his up to 36%. It’s clear they like Murray as the red zone back, but I think there are bigger plans for him. In a game where the Ravens should get up early, I think they turn to Murray to protect the ball and run the clock in this one… I just really don’t like the price tag on him. At this price tag, I’ll wait for him to become THE guy before going here. From the Lions, Jared Goff has been pretty solid from a DFS perspective to start the season, but not someone I’ll be going to here. I would prefer both quarterbacks in that Giants game at a similar price tag to him. It’s really just TJ Hockenson and maybe a sprinkle of these running backs from the Lions for me. Hockenson is probably a top-five tight end for me the rest of the season and isn’t priced like the Waller’s or the Kelce’s of the world, he’s a really nice tight end option with a 95 rating in the Domination Station. Outside of him, you can take a flyer on D’Andre Swift or Jamaal Williams, but I think we can do better at the running back position this week.

5-star plays: Lamar Jackson, TJ Hockenson

4-star plays: Marquise Brown, Mark Andrews, Latavius Murray (GPP), D’Andre Swift

GPP Note: Probably just the Ravens offense in this one for me in GPPs, but viable in cash games as well. They have a nice floor/ceiling combination in this one against a bad defense.

Miami Dolphins @ Las Vegas Raiders

Vegas odds:

Total: 45.0

Line: LV -3.5

Rundown:

Onto the afternoon games, where we have some REALLY nice implied totals, and one stinker that we’ll get to. This one is right in the middle, but we’ll start with the Dolphins. Miami will be without Tua Tagovailoa in this one, meaning Jacoby Brissett will get the start and threw 40 times last week as he entered the game for Tua. I don’t think it’s a huge drop-off for this Dolphins offense in real football, but I do think it hurts his receivers a good chunk in DFS. We weren’t really on them anyway as they haven’t done a whole heck of a lot to this point, but worth noting they’re expecting Will Fuller back in this one… I’m just going to play it as a wait-and-see and go from there, that goes for this whole offense. From the Raiders, it sounds like they could be without Josh Jacobs again this week. I wrote up an article last week breaking down this backfield without Jacobs last week and it will ring true again this week, as we saw just what I predicted to take place in that week two game against the Steelers, I encourage you to give the article below a glance!

Josh Jacobs Ruled Out Week 2 – Daily Fantasy Sports Outlook

That being said, this passing game led by Derek Carr has looked really good to start the season, he actually leads the NFL in passing yards. That should obviously regress, but it goes to show that this offense has no problem singling the ball around especially if Jacobs is on the shelf again, and he’s at a nice price tag. Picking out the pass-catchers to pair with him will be the difficult part outside of the obvious, Darren Waller. Waller is an elite tight end option again this week with a 95 rating in the Domination Station and a top-four target percentage at 27.9% on the season. Henry Ruggs, Bryan Edwards, and Hunter Renfroe are more GPP darts than anything for me.

5-star plays: Darren Waller

4-star plays: Derek Carr

GPP Note: It’s probably just the Carr/Waller combo in this one for me with some sprinkles of those Raiders wide-outs in GPPs as I mentioned.

New York Jets @ Denver Broncos

Vegas odds:

Total: 41.0

Line: Den -11.0

Rundown:

All in favor of flat-out skipping this game? Yeah… it’s not pretty. This is the game I mentioned as a stinker, it has the lowest implied total on the week and really isn’t one I want a whole lot of anything from. That being said, from the Jets I guess you can make a case for Corey Davis, as they should be behind and throwing a bunch in this one, but honestly, that’s about it. I don’t want to cheat you of any content but also don’t want to lead you astray thinking there are any other pieces from this offense, it’s just not the week to go here. From the Broncos, I suppose you can make a case for a Bridgewater/Sutton pairing, but again, would you rather play them in a game with a 41 implied total or go to Ryan/Ridley or Jones/Golladay for a similar price tag at a much higher total. The backfield is a mess between Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams as well, really just a fade game for me.

5-star plays: None

4-star plays: Teddy Bridgewater, Courtland Sutton

GPP Note: Maybe a lineup or two of the Broncos stack if you’re entering 150 lineups, but that’s about it.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Los Angeles Rams

Vegas odds:

Total: 55.5

Line: TB -1.5

Rundown:

We round out the slate with two games tied for the slate high for implied totals at 55.5. We’ll start with the Buccaneers who don’t seem like they lost a step from last year’s Super Bowl run. It’s really hard not to like Tom Brady and his pass-catchers even against a good Rams defense. Brady has at least 30 DraftKings points in each of his first two games this season and has a good shot at another one here. One thing to note is Antonio Brown was placed on the Covid list and appears unlikely to play in this one, so we should see a higher target share for guys like Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Rob Gronkowski, all of who are in play again this week. I’ll continue to fade this Buccaneers backfield especially against one of the better run-stopping defenses in the league. From the Rams, this Matt Stafford/Cooper Kupp combo is going to be a fun one all season long. Kupp has at least 10 targets in both their games this season with at least 26 DraftKings points in each of them. He’s an elite option and should continue to be throughout the season. Robert Woods and the rest of these Rams pass-catchers haven’t had as much luck, but I do think you can make a case for them and Tyler Higbee at a nice price tag as a tight-end option. Similar to Tampa, I’ll likely fade this backfield even if Darrell Henderson is ruled out, I don’t trust Sony Michel to get it done against this Rams defense.

5-star plays: Tom Brady, Chris Godwin, Matt Stafford, Cooper Kupp

4-star plays: Mike Evans, Rob Gronkowski, Robert Woods

GPP Note: Both sides of this one are fully in play as a stack, but I think I’ll lean-to with the Bucs side as my preferred side, but just by a hair.

Seattle Seahawks @ Minnesota Vikings

Vegas odds:

Total: 55.5

Line: Sea -2.0

Rundown:

Last but not least, we’ll round the slate off starting with the Seahawks. The Vikings have proven to be a pretty poor defense to start the season and a matchup with the Seahawks isn’t going to help their chances of turning it around. The Russell Wilson/Tyler Lockett duo has been unstoppable this season as Lockett has at least 29 DraftKings points in both games. That being said, I think it’s a DK Metcalf week… he wasn’t really involved outside of a late touchdown in week one, and looks like they tried a bit more to get him the ball with 11 targets last week. I really like this spot for Metcalf and think he’s in for a huge week. You can get to some Chris Carson here as well, Rashad Penny will miss this week as well, so Carson should get all the work in the backfield against a bad Vikings defense. From the Minnesota side, it’s the usual suspects in Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and Dalvin Cook for me. The Seahawks don’t have an overly great defense and the Vikings offense has been known for putting up nice fantasy numbers. You can make a case for Kirk Cousins who has 25 DraftKings points in each of his first two games, but I just don’t know that he has the same upside as other quarterbacks in his range. One guy to keep an eye on as a turd value play is KJ Osborn. He has at least six targets in each of his first two games but saw his snap percentage fall to 59% in week two.

5-star plays: Russell Wilson, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Dalvin Cook

4-star plays: Kirk Cousins, Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen

GPP Note: Love the Seahawks side of this one, but the Vikings are in play as well. This would be a fun late slate game stack that is playable on the main slate as well with how high this total is.
