You have to start your research somewhere, and oftentimes going game by game and breaking down every matchup and its key players is the first step in our process. My name is Michael aka @MadnessDFS on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the advice in the article. But, you’ll mostly find me in our VIP coaching forums where I provide detailed lineup maneuvers and answer all lineup questions. With that said, let’s get it started!

Miami Heat @ Atlanta Hawks

We’ll kick the slate off with the Heat, Jimmy Butler comes into this one priced up on both sites but has looked good as of late. I think you can get to him here, I would think we get some decent value on this slate to make him work. Bam Adebayo has struggled in this matchup this season. He’s averaging just 31.1 DraftKings points per game in two games against the Hawks, Butler didn’t play in either of those games either… maybe it’s just a case where Capela has his number. Tyler Herro finally had a decent game last time out against the Spurs. I like him more on DraftKings due to the price and the multi-position eligibility. Then you can round this team off with a few ancillary tournament pieces like Duncan Robinson, Kendrick Nunn, and Goran Dragic. From the Hawks, we’re going to get some value opening up here. Trae Young has been ruled out while Clint Capela and Danilo Gallinari are both questionable. Let’s run some numbers with Young, DeAndre Hunter, and Cam Reddish off the court this season, assuming both Capela and Gallinari play:
- Clint Capela – 22.7% usage rate; 1.43 fpm
- Kevin Huerter – 20.4% usage rate; 0.81 fpm
- Bogdan Bogdanovic – 24.7% usage rate; 1.0 fpm
- John Collins – 29.8% usage rate; 1.20 fpm
These are the main guys I’ll have interest in as well as Brandon Goodwin who I would assume gets the start for Young here, he would be a great value play on DraftKings, but that price on FanDuel is a bit harder to swallow.
5-star play: Jimmy Butler, Clint Capela, Brandon Goodwin (DraftKings)
4-star play: Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Kevin Huerter
Deeper Value: Brandon Goodwin (DraftKings)
GPP Sleeper: Duncan Robinson, Kendrick Nunn, Goran Dragic, Brandon Goodwin (FanDuel), John Collins
Boston Celtics @ Brooklyn Nets

Starting with the Celtics, we’re waiting on a good chunk of news from this team. Jaylen Brown, Robert Williams, and Evan Fournier all come into this one as questionable. So keep an eye on the Breaking News Feed for updates surrounding these three and how they’ll affect the rest of the team. Jayson Tatum has been pretty average in two games against this Nets team this season, he’s priced way up on DraftKings, but I like him a good deal on FanDuel at a $500 discount. Kemba Walker has at least 45 DraftKings points in three of his last four games and getting more minutes than we saw earlier this season. One thing you’ll want to watch for on him is it’s a back-to-back and he hasn’t played in many this season. Marcus Smart has been pretty solid as of late as well, I have no issue using him as a lineup filler. From the Nets, we’ll need some news here as well with Kevin Durant coming in as questionable. Kyrie Irving is a solid play regardless of if Durant plays or not, but his price is friendlier on FanDuel. Joe Harris and Bruce Brown are fine GPP options as well, but why not just save the money and go down to Landry Shamet who is a similar fantasy producer? Lastly, a case can be made for Blake Griffin as well, but I definitely don’t love it.
5-star play: Kyrie Irving
4-star play: Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Kevin Durant
Deeper Value: None
GPP Sleeper: Robert Williams, Joe Harris, Bruce Brown, Blake Griffin

Cleveland Cavaliers @ Charlotte Hornets
Vegas Total: 209.0
Vegas Spread: Cha -1.0
Starting with the Cavaliers, Collin Sexton has looked really good over the past couple of games. He’s pretty expensive on FanDuel, but for $7.3k on DraftKings, he feels like a steal, with at least 46 DraftKings points in each of his last two games. Darius Garland is really similar at a cheaper price tag. Jarrett Allen has been pretty bad relative to his price tag as of late, I just don’t see the need for him on this slate. Kevin Love has been really solid as of late and dropped nearly 40 fantasy points on the Hornets a few games back, he’s a nice GPP option in this one. From the Hornets, Terry Rozier continues to put up huge numbers along with Miles Bridges. These guys have really taken advantage of LaMelo and Hayward being out for the Hornets, but they’re certainly priced up. Devonte’ Graham has been fine and looked okay in last night’s game, but he’s another guy I don’t love the price tag on. PJ Washington is a guy I do like for tournaments though, he’s shown a massive upside this season and has been really good since Hayward went down. Lastly, the production on Jalen McDaniels has fallen a little bit but the minutes are still there for him, that said, he’s still probably overpriced.
5-star play: Collin Sexton (DraftKings)
4-star play: Collin Sexton (FanDuel), Darius Garland, Terry Rozier, Miles Bridges, PJ Washington
Deeper Value: None
GPP Sleeper: Kevin Love, Devonte’ Graham, Jalen McDaniels
Los Angeles Clippers @ Houston Rockets

Starting with the Clippers, Paul George should return here after missing the last game, and he is on a tear. He has at least 50 FanDuel points in six of the last seven games he played and gets an elite matchup here with Kawhi Leonard out as well. Marcus Morris is another guy that has produced pretty well with Kawhi out this season, he chucks when he’s out there man. With Reggie Jackson back in the lineup we can pretty much right off Luke Kennard at this price tag, I wouldn’t count on him going 6-7 from three-point range again. Terance Mann finally had a good game last time out but he’s another guy that should take a hit with Jackson and George back in the lineup. Lastly, Ivica Zubac is a solid mid-range center option if you need one on either site. The Rockets have not been good in the interior this season. Speaking of the Rockets, Kevin Porter Jr. is going to miss a few games coming up but it sounds like Eric Gordon and Danuel House Jr. will have a chance to return in this one. Christian Wood hasn’t looked the same as he did before the all-star break and it just feels like he’s overpriced right now. John Wall is a guy I’ll have an interest in for tournaments, he’s always a high usage guy when he’s in there. Then really the only other guy I want from this team is Jae’sean Tate, and using the word “want” is putting in heavy.
5-star play: Paul George
4-star play: Marcus Morris, Reggie Jackson, Ivica Zubac, Christian Wood, John Wall
Deeper Value: None
GPP Sleeper: Christian Wood, Jae’sean Tate
Washington Wizards @ Oklahoma City Thunder

Starting with the Wizards, how can you not just keep going back to Russell Westbrook? His price tag really hasn’t moved and he’s dropping 60 fantasy points nightly, I’m just going to keep locking in the points here as he goes back to Oklahoma City …. in a revenge game? I’m not sure how much he still has on the team since he didn’t play with those guys, but he scored 60 in this spot earlier this season regardless. Bradley Beal has looked good as of late as well, not to mention he has at least 35 minutes in five straight games, it appears he’s got his footing back. The only other guy I’ll have much interest in from the Wizards is Daniel Gafford. He has at least 33 DraftKings points in two of his last three games and is sub $4k on DraftKings, the price on FanDuel is probably too high for my liking. From the Thunder, Lu Dort continues to look great, he has at least 41 DraftKings points in three straight games and has SF eligibility on both sites which is always a tough position to cover. Not to mention he’s REALLY cheap on FanDuel, I like that price quite a bit over there. Over the past two weeks, he has a 31.1% usage rate and 1.39 fantasy points per minute. Darius Bazley and Moses Brown looked pretty solid last game and make sense as tournament pieces in a pace-up spot. Outside of those three guys, I think it would just be Theo Maledon as a filler type play to round out this Thunder team.
5-star play: Russell Westbrook, Lu Dort (FanDuel)
4-star play: Bradley Beal, Daniel Gafford (DraftKings), Darius Bazley, Moses Brown
Deeper Value: Daniel Gafford (DraftKings)
GPP Sleeper: Lu Dort (DraftKings), Theo Maledon
Denver Nuggets @ Golden State Warriors
Vegas Total: 228.0
Vegas Spread: Den -3.0
Starting with the Nuggets, it’s hard not to start with Nikola Jokic he’s been incredible since Murray went down. With Murray off the court this season Jokic is looking at a 33.8% usage rate and 1.68 fantasy points per minute… he’s right there with Westbrook as the top spend-up option on the slate. Michael Porter Jr. started out last game looking really good but just disappeared, but I have no issue going right back to him in a fast-paced game in this one. Will Barton came down to Earth last time out, if you’re going to play him, do it on DraftKings where he’s well under $6k. He’s in the same boat as Aaron Gordon who is more of a GPP option due to his volatility. Lastly, with Monte Morris and Murray out, Facundo Campazzo has been getting good run in the backcourt, he’s a solid value option if you need one in that range. From the Warriors, Steph Curry came back down to Earth last game where he went for just 38.75 DraftKings points, that being said you can still make a case for him in tournaments, he’s averaging 64.1 DraftKings points in two games against the Nuggets on the season. I’ll never have an issue playing Draymond Green, it’s a tougher matchup with Nikola Jokic inside for the Nuggets, but he’s a fine GPP option. The same can be said for Kelly Oubre and Andrew Wiggins, the Nuggets have struggled with opposing wings this season so I like getting to them in this spot.
5-star play: Nikola Jokic, Steph Curry
4-star play: Michael Porter Jr., Will Barton, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Kelly Oubre
Deeper Value: None
GPP Sleeper: Aaron Gordon, Kelly Oubre, Facundo Campazzo
Memphis Grizzlies @ Portland Trailblazers

Starting with the Grizzlies, Jonas Valanciunas will continue to be out for this team in this one. They did get Jaren Jackson Jr. back last game however and he looked great. He played just 18 minutes but he picked up a quick 33.5 DraftKings points. I don’t know that I’ll want to get to him yet due to the price tag, but as soon as those minutes come up, I’m on board. Xavier Tillman should get the start again for Joe Val, and he has at least 30 DraftKings points in his back-to-back games. I think you can get to him on both sites, FanDuel he’s more expensive but he’s also PF eligible which is nice. I love the matchup for Ja Morant, he showed us his huge ceiling a few days ago where he went for 72 DraftKings points, he’s too cheap again. Then the rest of these guys are going to be hard to measure as this team gets healthier, Dillon Brooks and Kyle Anderson would probably be my favorite options, as they’re locked into the best minutes. From the Blazers, they’re getting back to full strength as well, Damian Lillard has a really nice price at under $9k on FanDuel, I like him a good deal over there. The rest of this team is pretty much priced for Dame being out so they’re hard to get to. I do think you can get to Jusuf Nurkic here, however, but DraftKings only due to the minutes limit. He got those minutes up near 30 last game and dropped 27.25 DraftKings points, he’s a great option.
5-star play: Ja Morant, Damian Lillard (FanDuel), Jusuf Nurkic (DraftKings)
4-star play: Xavier Tillman, Dillon Brooks, Kyle Anderson, Damian Lillard (DraftKings)
Deeper Value: None
GPP Sleeper: CJ McCollum, Carmelo Anthony, Dillon Brooks, Kyle Anderson
