NHL DFS can be simple if you know where to look. Starting with a broader view of the hockey games a slate offers, in general, yields early targets. Diving into scoring lines, correlations, and even using Draftkings Tiers approaches can further simplify your process when you use our NHL Research Station game and skater tabs. See how below…

NHL DFS Power Picks: Fanduel + Draftkings Top Tiers Plays | March 9th
NHL Tier 1
Auston Matthews (TOR) for cash games has the highest floor, and an impressive ceiling. Also, carrying our top projection for any player tonight, anything other than Matthews is a contrarian play best saved for gpps.
DFS Hockey Tier 2
Ovechkin (WAS) has a rising floor finally and makes a lot of sense as we wait for the inevitable heater that can break any slate and make him a must have, even in classic formats. Marner (TOR) correlates with Matthews in T1, and Bergeron/Marchand (BOS) correlate with Pastrnak in T1, so you have choices. In a cash format, you can grab exposure to both Toronto and Boston with Matthews up top and Marchand (better numbers than Bergeron recently) in T2.
NHL Tier 3
Plenty of options, but looking at our consistency numbers from our Research Station, I’m still rolling steady handed Aleksander Barkov (FLA). Part of the volatility of this sport can be solved by taking a psuedo-season-long approach and using a lot of the same players night in and night out. There numbers will be there by season’s end…you just never know which matchups might produce the big nights. Now, if playing gpps and needing correlation, I’m very open to others in this tier.

DFS Hockey Tier 4
The Philly skaters of Coutrier and Van Riemsdyk make good sense, but the edge with them isn’t as big as say Matthews in T1. I’ve been riding a lot of Vincent Trochek lately and plan to continue just like I mentioned above. But, I can’t fault you for taking a Roman Josi (NSH) type, either, and using what is usually a massive floor to go with the highest pure projection in this tier tonight.
NHL Tier 5
As mentioned in the video, Kyle Connor (WPG) is one of the league’s premier goal scorers and he is also generally a default play of mine unless I see a reason to deviate. Aho (CAR) might be coming to life and correlates with Trocheck on power plays. John Tavares (TOR) makes a VERY intriguing correlation move with Matthews in T1 while locking up significant pieces of the Maple Leafs top 6 scoring options….a great combo floor that pairs on the top power play. The rest of the tier is rather uninteresting to me tonight.
DFS Hockey Tier 6
Joel Farabee (PHI) or bust for me. Strong numbers, underowned, and a decent floor this year. Everyone else in this tier not named Cam Atkinson (CBJ) just isn’t playing well enough, consistently enough, to warrant consideration from me. Doesn’t mean they won’t rise up with a random huge game…..just means I play the numbers and it’s Farabee and Atkinson only here.

NHL Tier 7
This tier is the “dealer’s choice” tier for the day. I would lean to Charlie McAvoy (BOS) for pure floor, but his upside is clearly capped. I’d lean on the Philly guys (Hayes/Giroux) if looking for some upside. Everyone else feels like rolling dice….not that my favorites listed are stable choices, either. Wide open!!
DFS Hockey Tier 8
Nylander (TOR) pairs with Tavares but not Matthews, take note. But, my default is the freakin’ szn Joe Pavelski (DAL) is logging. He cooled off a bit, but night-in and night-out, he’s a threat to score twice and break the tier. He’s shooting the puck frequently and sort of anchoring the Dallas offense as indicated by our “percantage of team scoring” all the way up 66% of any Dallas production right now. If Dallas scores a few goals, Pavelski is involved this year….that gives us a nice floor in a bottom-feeding tier.
Stronger Correlation and NHL Stacking Options
