NHL DFS Power Picks: Fanduel + Draftkings Top Tiers Plays | March 3rd
NHL Tier 1
Pastrnak (BOS) and McDavid (EDM) are by far the most consistent of the bunch and not coincidentally have a commanding lead in pure production over the last 10 NHL games. As usual, Draisaitl (EDM) makes a beautiful gpp pivot off McDavid every slate they share a tier.
DFS Hockey Tier 2
Marner (TOR) has the production lead recently, but MacKinnon (COL) has the consistency factor locked up hitting 15 DK points 50% of the time over 10 and 20 game samples. Bergeron (BOS) makes an outstanding NHL correlation pivot here, especially if using Pastrnak in T1.
NHL Tier 3
Tavares (TOR) and Carlson (WSH) have the shot/block floor here for cash games, but Nugent-Hopkins (EDM) not only correlates with McDavid and Draisaitl from T1, but has a tremendous ceiling any given night and brings in a clear tier lead with 2 pp goals and 3 pp assists in the last 10 games. No one else is close. (I will also mention it’s a rare night you can stack BOS PP1 in NHL tiers by using Pasta/Bergie/Marchand. That’s worth a look given they have a 99% implied PP Scoring Chance per the RS.)

DFS Hockey Tier 4
Jesus Christ….Max Pacioretty (VGK) enters tonight with a 76% implied scoring chance per the NHL Research Station! He also blows away the tier with 51 shots and blocks over his last 10 games (next closest is Jakob Chychrun (ARI) with 44). However, the recent fantasy point production leader in T4 is Logan Couture (SJ). All three have the most consistency in the tier….and between these three, it’s kind of splitting hairs.
NHL Tier 5
If looking for a pair partner with “Patches” from T4, Theodore (VGK) has the floor and Stone (VGK) has the ceiling. In fact, Mark Stone is 50% of the Vegas Golden Knights scoring this year and, outside of perhaps Anze Kopitar (LAK) running a bit hot right now, might make the most sense.
DFSHockey Tier 6
Kane (SJ) and Fiala (MIN) make a ton of sense here unless you are specifically correlating in other NHL spots (like Landeskog or Kadri with MacKinnon in Colorado). But, a closer look points out Fiala has cooled off while Kane has done nothing but turn up the heat. Pairing Kane with Couture makes a lot of sense, and so far, only Evander Kane can show you a 60% consistency at 25 DK points or higher over 5 games, 30% over 10 games (meaning it’s all coming out of the last 5 games), but also a absolutely bonkers 30% over a larger 20-game sample…..giving him perhaps the most upside on the slate!

NHL Tier 7
Industry projections continue to suck the dick of Mike Hoffman (STL) and I’m just not buying until I see him turn on the jets. He did over a brief period a couple weeks back, but his 26 SOGBS number is crap for this tier, and that tells me to look elsewhere. Nylander (TOR) immediately catches my eye with a pp goal and pp assist each in his last 5, but for a floor, I’m looking at Alec Martinez (VGK). Martinez doesn’t serve on a power play unit, which makes him much lower owned than he should be, yet he carries the kind of NHL floor Alex Edler used to in Vancouver when we used him daily in DFS NHL cash games….(I’ve been using Martinez all year, have you?). He’s not much for upside, so you can certainly pair with others in gpps. But, if wanting to just move on from this tier, he’s not a bad default and is usually very dependable for 10-15 points.
DFS Hockey Tier 8
As the tiers drop off, they typically become much wider open. Tonight is no exception, but I’m spotting a few players here to watch. Drew Doughty (LAK) pairs or stacks with Kings skaters well. And, people will probably flock to Nick Ritchie in Boston. But, when we aren’t concerned with prices and salary, Ritchie needs to produce like a big boy…and he hasn’t, ranking dead last for the tier in Fanduel production over his last 10 games. I’d look more to Justin Faulk (STL) for a floor. You would play him much like Alec Martinez in T7. However, my eyes are still on Jordan Kyrou (STL). Before you think it’s just a mancrush (oh…it is!), we can back this with some numbers. Where everyone else in the NHL tier is flat or down from their L10 to L5 numbers, Kyrou is not only up….but 25% higher! He has a 75% chance in getting you at least 5 points (leads the tier) and only Drew Doughty also gives you the chances right now at hitting 20+ points over their last 5 games. Give him a look as a 1off if not pairing anyone from T8 specifically with another linemate elsewhere.
