Phoenix Suns @ Charlotte Hornets
Vegas Total: TBD
Vegas Spread: TBD
This game isn’t on the main slate, but it looks like there are some decent showdown contests for it so we’ll get into it a bit here. Starting with the Suns, Chris Paul is the safest play of anyone in this game with his assist upside, he’s been dishing them out left and right and is in play in all formats. Devin Booker has also been heating up, but his assist numbers are down because of playing alongside Paul. DeAndre Ayton actually draws the best matchup of any of the Suns, as the Hornets struggle against bigs and he’s been trending in the right direction over the past week or so. For value, Jae Crowder and Dario Saric have been splitting minutes at the 4, but its been a coin flip between which of the two will have the better game. That’s really about all the interest I have in the Suns, now for the Hornets. With LaMelo Ball out for the rest of the year, the scoring load has fallen on Terry Rozier, he’s been getting more shots these past few games and I’d expect that to continue tonight, just know that he is pretty scoring dependent for his fantasy points. Devonte’ Graham will take on a bigger role as well, and he’s been solid and doesn’t break the bank on either site. Gordon Hayward will also draw a ton of usage here with LaMelo out, as he saw 39 minutes last game and I’d expect the same tonight. PJ Washington draws a solid matchup as well, and he doesn’t break the bank either. Malik Monk has also been great off the bench, he saw 26 minutes last time out and he’s a solid FPPM performer when he gets the minutes, he’s probably your best value play from this game.
5-star play: Chris Paul, Gordon Hayward
4-star play: Devin Booker, DeAndre Ayton, PJ Washington, Terry Rozier
Deeper Value: Devonte’ Graham, Malik Monk, Jae Crowder, Dario Saric
GPP Sleeper: Malik Monk
Portland Trail Blazers @ Toronto Raptors
Vegas Total: TBD
Vegas Spread: TBD
Here we have a game that should have some fireworks, as both of these teams are in the playoff hunt and need to get going if they want to make the playoffs. Starting with the Trail Blazers, Damian Lillard is their primary option on offense, but he draws a difficult matchup here going against the Heat, but we all know that when he is on he is matchup proof, however, he did sit out last game so that is something to monitor again here tonight. CJ McCollum has also been trending upward since his return from injury, but he has been scoring dependent and the matchup does leave a bit to be desired here, and the addition of Norman Powell will likely eat into his usage the most of any of the Blazers starters. Enes Kanter also has a great matchup, but Jusuf Nurkic is back here but he will be on a limit, either way he eats into his ceiling. Carmelo Anthony has been really good for them off the bench, and I like his prospects tonight more against this Raptors 2nd team defense. Now for the Raptors, they have a bit of a different look now with Norman Powell in Portland already. Kyle Lowry will be playing heavy minutes here, and he’s grateful to still be in Toronto, he’s a premier play here tonight at the Blazers struggle against PGs. Fred VanVleet will also play heavy minutes here, and I think that he’s a bit underpriced here given the matchup. OG Anunoby will be in line for more minutes with Powell gone, as will Chris Boucher likely. Both of them are in play for GPPs here tonight. Pascal Siakam is probably the biggest beneficiary of Powell’s departure, as that’ll open up a ton of shots for him and I expect his usage to skyrocket here as they’ll need to make up for that scoring. Gary Trent would also be in play here if he makes his Raptors debut, as Davis is gone as well, so they’re a bit short on guards.
5-star play: Damian Lillard, Fred VanVleet
4-star play: Norman Powell, CJ McCollum, Enes Kanter, Carmelo Anthony, Kyle Lowry, Pascal Siakam
Deeper Value: Gary Trent, Chris Boucher, Jusuf Nurkic
GPP Sleeper: Gary Trent
Atlanta Hawks @ Denver Nuggets
Vegas Total: 228.5
Vegas Spread: Den -4.5
This should be a great game, and this is the one that I’ll be targeting the most as it has the highest total and should be the most competitive game of the night. Trae Young is the premier play here, as Gary Harris is no longer with the Nuggets so they will be much worse against guards. Clint Capela has a difficult matchup here going up against Jokic, but his rebounding ability keeps his floor safe. John Collins also went off last game, but I don’t expect that to happen with Capela and Gallo both healthy. Bogdan Bogdanovic also started last game but he didn’t play a ton of minutes, I prefer him coming off the bench. Danilo Gallinari has also been great off the bench and he doesn’t break the bank anywhere tonight. Lastly, Kevin Huerter saw 28 minutes off the bench, and I’d expect him to start here tonight. Now for the Nuggets, Nikola Jokic is the guy you want here tonight, he’ll be a core play for me in all formats as the pace and style of this game suit him perfectly. The big news here will be whether or not Aaron Gordon makes his debut, if he does I’d expect him to take Paul Millsap’s starting role at the 4. Either way, Jamal Murray will play a ton of minutes here, as he saw 39 last game. Michael Porter Jr. is also playing a ton of minutes, as he saw 40 minutes last game, but the addition of Gordon will likely hurt him the most of any of the Nuggets. They’ll have a tight rotation here tonight, and their starters will play heavy minutes so those are the only guys that I’ll be targeting on the Nuggets tonight.
5-star play: Trae Young, Nikola Jokic
4-star play: Aaron Gordon, John Collins, Michael Porter, Jamal Murray, Clint Capela
Deeper Value: Kevin Huerter, Danilo Gallinari, Bogdan Bogdanovic
GPP Sleeper: Clint Capela, Danilo Gallinari
Orlando Magic @ Los Angeles Lakers
Vegas Total: 208
Vegas Spread: Lal -7
Here we have the hammer game which is projected as the lowest scoring game of the night, but we have a ton of value open here for the Magic with all the trades they made. Starting with them, They stayed competitive last game, and I think they will here too as the Lakers have been scuffling without LeBron and AD. Chuma Okeke had the best game of his career, and he played 37 minutes last game, so he’s a great play in all formats. James Ennis and Khem Birch also saw a ton of minutes at the 4/5 and they’re both cheap again here tonight so I like them as well. Dwayne Bacon will also take over the SG role here, he saw 34 minutes last game and the biggest piece will be Michael Carter-Williams as he almost sat out with an illness last game before returning off the bench, I want him if he starts. Mo Bamba also saw 20+ minutes and he’s a great FPPM when he gets the minutes. For the Lakers, we now have a pretty solid idea of how their rotation is going to shake out with LeBron and AD out, and the main guy we’re going to want to target is Dennis Schroder as he is now the unequivocal leader on this offense as he’ll run the point, and the matchup is great here as the Magic struggle against guards. Kyle Kuzma has also made his way to the starting lineup, and he has played heavy minutes so he’s in play in all formats tonight, he got off to a hot start last game and then kind of disappeared. Markieff Morris started as well, but he’ll lose minutes to Harrell as we saw. Speaking of which Montrezl Harrell has looked absolutely phenomenal in these past 4 games, and he’s firmly in play in all formats here tonight on both sites. Talen Horton-Tucker‘s price has caught up, which is unfortunate, but he is in play once again here tonight after his dud game last time out. Alex Caruso is also seeing heavy minutes off the bench and he is a nice target here for value tonight.
5-star play: Montrezl Harrell, Chuma Okeke
4-star play: Dennis Schroder, Kyle Kuzma, James Ennis, Khem Birch, Michael Carter-Williams
Deeper Value: Markieff Morris, Talen Horton-Tucker, Dwayne Bacon, Mo Bamba
GPP Sleeper: Alex Caruso, Chuma Okeke
NBA Lock of the Day:
(Chuma Okeke FD: $5,300 DK: $5,700)
Chuma makes for a great play in all formats here tonight, as the Magic basically traded their whole team away and he was the biggest beneficiary of those guys’ departure. He played 37 minutes last game and has 20+ actual points and this Lakers team isn’t the same team defensively without LeBron and AD. I believe he’ll be priced over 7K in the near future so lets just on the train now while he’s still cheap.
