Miami Heat @ Houston Rockets
Vegas Total: TBD
Vegas Spread: Mia -2.5
For the Heat, Goran Dragic has already been ruled out today, so that’ll open up a few things for both Tyler Herro, and Jimmy Butler. Both are really solid plays here as the Rockets are horrible defensively and they play fast and loose, which plays right into the Heats hands. Bam Adebayo also draws a favorable matchup here against the likes of DeMarcus Cousins, but I think his upside is a bit capped with both those guys in today, but I still think he can get you 40-45 FPs. Kelly Olynyk and Duncan Robinson both makes for interesting GPP values on a slate like this, especially if Olynyk continues to start. Kendrick Nunn is also viable today with Dragic out, but I’d rather play Herro as long as he continues to come off the bench.
For the Rockets, it looks like they will be at full strength here minus Christian Wood. We’ve been disappointed by DeMarcus Cousins the past 2 games, so we know he’s going to likely go nuclear tonight in the toughest matchup he’s had and he’ll be at low ownership. Victor Oladipo has been playing really well, but the matchup here isn’t great against Miami. John Wall also is in play here, but I don’t love the matchup here for him either. Eric Gordon is in play as well, especially in the event of a blowout. Danuel House would be a decent value as well if he draws the start once again but the Rockets have had a tough time keeping games competitive over the past week.
5-star play: Jimmy Butler
4-star play: Bam Adebayo, DeMarcus Cousins, Victor Oladipo, John Wall
Deeper Value: Kelly Olynyk, Kendrick Nunn, Danuel House
GPP Sleeper: Kendrick Nunn, Kelly Olynyk, DeMarcus Cousins
Toronto Raptors @ Boston Celtics
Vegas Total: TBD
Vegas Spread: Bos -3.5
For the Raptors, Pascal Siakam has the best matchup of anyone on the Raptors, and he has a solid history against the Celtics. Fred VanVleet is also in play here tonight but his price is really elevated with his recent production. Kyle Lowry has a decent matchup as well with Smart out, but he really struggled last night. Aron Baynes got the lion’s share of the C minutes last night, so I’d expect Chris Boucher to bounce back here and get some more minutes with them being on the 2nd half of a B2B. Outside of that there really isn’t anyone else I want to target on this Toronto team.
For the Celtics, Kemba Walker is still too underpriced here even with Jaylen Brown back in the fold here. He’s coming off a disappointing game as well, so he’s in a prime bounce back spot. Jayson Tatum is always in play especially in big games likes this where he will have the opportunity to take over. Tristan Thompson is also in a decent spot here as the Raptors are not the same team they used to be against bigs. Daniel Theis has also been super efficient with his minutes, but I’d rather play Thompson in this spot especially with other games where I expect there to be bigger totals.
5-star play: Pascal Siakam, Jayson Tatum
4-star play: Fred VanVleet, Kemba Walker, Kyle Lowry, Chris Boucher
Deeper Value: Tristan Thompson, Daniel Theis
GPP Sleeper: Tristan Thompson
Indiana Pacers @ Detroit Pistons
Vegas Total: 219
Vegas Spread: Ind -3.0
For the Pacers, this is a nice get right matchup after them getting blown out by the Nets last night. Domantas Sabonis draws a great matchup here as he should be able to get whatever he wants against Blake Griffin. Myles Turner should also be able to take advantage of his matchup against Plumlee, and Malcolm Brogdon has a great matchup against Delon Wright as well. Jeremy Lamb is also back up to his normal minutes, so he’s firmly in play here but he takes away mostly from Brogdon here. Doug McDermott has also been playing really well off the bench, and if you’re looking to get really different, T.J. McConnell has been playing really well with the 2nd team.
For the Pistons, Jerami Grant has been heating back up, and this Pistons team has been keeping games competitive, but the matchup isn’t as good as it was against BKN the other night. Mason Plumlee has been white hot as well, and he’s playing heavy minutes as well so he’s firmly in play at his price especially on FanDuel. Delon Wright has also been playing well, and his price doesn’t break the bank and he’ll see more usage with Rose shipped out to New York. Josh Jackson and Svi Mykhailuk are also in play here for value with Rose gone, and I’ll even have some interest in Sekou Doumbouya if he starts. Blake Griffin is also in play here, but he hasn’t looked like himself at all this year.
5-star play: Jerami Grant, Domantas Sabonis
4-star play: Malcolm Brogdon, Myles Turner, Delon Wright, Jeremy Lamb
Deeper Value: Josh Jackson, Svi Mykhailuk
GPP Sleeper: Josh Jackson
Orlando Magic @ Golden State Warriors
Vegas Total: TBD
Vegas Spread: Gsw -6.5
For the Magic, Nikola Vucevic is the top dog here for this Magic team, as he’s been their anchor offensively all year long and the matchup doesn’t get much better than it can as GS is horrible against bigs. Aaron Gordon comes in 2nd, but he’s out for the next few weeks with an injury so that is a major boost to some of the Magic starters. Cole Anthony has been thriving in the PG role for the Magic so far with Fultz done for the year, and he doesn’t break the bank once again tonight, and he has a great matchup here tonight against the lack of defense that Steph Curry plays. Terrence Ross is always in play for GPPs with his scoring ability, as he has immense upside when his shot is falling as he dominates usage with that 2nd unit. Evan Fournier is a GTD, so if he is out again that opens up a lot for James Ennis and Dwayne Bacon as value plays, with my preference being Ennis. Gary Clark will likely draw the start for Gordon and Khem Birch should see some solid minutes off the bench as well.
Its the usual cast for the Warriors here tonight, Steph Curry is going to lead the offense here and has the highest upside of anyone on this slate as he gets a matchup against a rookie in Cole Anthony who’s defense is a work in progress. Kelly Oubre is starting to heat up over the past 2 weeks but consistency is the main issue there, so he’s a great GPP play especially with his price driven up due to that one massive game. Andrew Wiggins is also in play here but I don’t love his price tag on FanDuel. James Wiseman has been out, but if he is back he would be a solid value play here. Lastly, Draymond Green does it all here, as he can rack up rebounds and assists here and his price is pretty cheap with some upside as he showed he can go for 40+ without even scoring an actual point, especially if Looney is out. If he happens to be out as well for any reason, that’ll open up a lot of things for Eric Paschall as he’ll be a really solid value play as he’ll be one of their only bigs.
5-star play: Stephen Curry, Nikola Vucevic
4-star play: Kelly Oubre, Cole Anthony, Terrence Ross, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green
Deeper Value: Eric Paschall, James Ennis
GPP Sleeper: Eric Paschall, James Ennis
Philadelphia 76ers @ Portland Trail Blazers
Vegas Total: 229.5
Vegas Spread: Phi -5.5
For the Sixers, it looks like they will be at full strength here, so Joel Embiid will be their main option on offense here, and the matchup is one where he can hit that ceiling, so he’s firmly in play here as Enes Kanter is basically a revolving door at the rim. Ben Simmons has a nice height advantage over Dame here, but I don’t love his price on FanDuel especially with him coming off a great game last time out. Tobias Harris is also as steady as they come, but I think he’s priced right about at value here with the Sixers big 3 all healthy. If you’re looking for value, Seth Curry is still playing starters minutes and he doesn’t break the bank. Lastly, Shake Milton has been crushing it off the bench as well but I’d like to see him get closer to 25 minutes if I play him on a slate like this where our value is kind of limited at this point in the day.
For the Trailblazers, they have been starting to heat up, but this Sixers team will likely slow the pace of this game down a bit. Damian Lillard has a tough matchup here, as he’ll likely struggle with the length of Ben Simmons, which is pretty common when guys go up against Simmons. Carmelo Anthony is a great play here as well, especially if Derrick Jones Jr. misses once again as he’ll likely take 20+ shots again, so keep an eye on news here. Enes Kanter gets a tough matchup here as well, going up against Embiid, as he is one of the better interior defenders in the game. Gary Trent Jr. is coming off a number of good games as well and as long as he continues to start he is in play with McCollum being on the shelf for a few more weeks. Robert Covington has also been playing really well since his return from injury as well. This is a nice game to target, especially with it being the hammer game as the total is going to be one of the highest on the slate.
5-star play: Damian Lillard, Joel Embiid
4-star play: Gary Trent Jr., Carmelo Anthony, Robert Covington, Tobias Harris
Deeper Value: Gary Trent Jr., Shake Milton
GPP Sleeper: Seth Curry
NBA Lock of the Day:
Kemba Walker (FD: $5,500 DK: $6,500)
Tonight Kemba Walker is simply too cheap here, especially going into what is likely a future playoff matchup and Kyle Lowry isn’t exactly known for his defensive prowess. Toronto also isn’t the same defensive team that they used to be, and they rank in the bottom third of the league in allowing fantasy points to opposing PGs.
