Los Angeles Clippers @ New York Knicks
Vegas Total: 212.5
Vegas Spread: Lac -8
Starting with the Clippers, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are back which kills a lot of the value we had just a few nights ago. This game isn’t on the main slate but if you’re playing showdown both of those guys are really good Captain options. Patrick Beverley has already been ruled out, so that’ll open up a few more minutes for both Lou Williams and Reggie Jackson, although Lou has looked a little lost this year without his running mate Montrezl Harrell. That’s really it for this Clippers team as there isn’t a ton of value outside of there, but if you want to take a shot here, Serge Ibaka and Ivica Zubac split the minutes at the 5, but because of that both of their upsides are a bit limited.
For the Knicks, Julius Randle has been on an absolute tear this year, and this is another solid matchup for him, as Vegas predicts that this game will stay close. Outside of Randle, RJ Barrett has been building on a pretty successful rookie year, although his shooting remains a bit shaky and the matchup isn’t great here against the Clippers and their stout defense. Elfrid Payton sees a bit of a boost and is off the injury report here, so he’s in play with no Pat Bev to both him. Mitchell Robinson draws a bit of a tougher matchup downlow, but he’s always in play for GPPs with his ability to rack up blocks and rebounds in a hurry. Lastly, Austin Rivers has been playing really well off the bench and he’s a decent value play.
5-star play: Kawhi Leonard
4-star play: Paul George, Julius Randle, Reggie Jackson, RJ Barrett
Deeper Value: Elfrid Payton, Austin Rivers
GPP Sleeper: Austin Rivers
Utah Jazz @ Denver Nuggets
Vegas Total: TBD
Vegas Spread: TBD
This game is also not on the main slate, but what you do with the Jazz hinges on the availability of Donovan Mitchell, as if he is out he opens up a ton of value for both Joe Ingles and Jordan Clarkson at their respective prices, however, if he is in today it really puts a damper on their expectations. Rudy Gobert has quietly been crushing it the past few games, but the matchup isn’t the best for him here against Jokic. Mike Conley is also in play from this Jazz team, as he has been a model of consistency so far, but the matchup isn’t ideal here as this game should be pretty slow paced. If you’re looking for a solid value in showdown, JaMychal Green has been solid and I’ll also like Bogdan Bogdanovic if Mitchell misses again here.
For the Nuggets, the top option is pretty obvious in Nikola Jokic, as the guy has been flirting with triple doubles in almost every game so far this year, he’s a top payup option. Jamal Murray is listed as a GTD here, but he is probable with that shoulder issue. His price is actually pretty low considering the upside you get with him. Michael Porter Jr. has been on a tear coming off the bench, and I hope that trend continues here as well. If Murray were to miss this game for any reason, Monte Morris would be the one to benefit as he is pretty cheap everywhere.
5-star play: Nikola Jokic
4-star play: Rudy Gobert, Jamal Murray, Mike Conley, Donovan Mitchell (if he plays)
Deeper Value: Joe Ingles, Jordan Clarkson, Monte Morris, Bogdan Bogdanovic
GPP Sleeper: Jordan Clarkson
Philadelphia 76ers @ Indiana Pacers
Vegas Total: TBD
Vegas Spread: TBD
For the Sixers, the big news here that will change the slate is whether or not Joel Embiid plays with his back issue, he played the other night so I’m going to write this as if he is playing. The matchup isn’t the best, but as we’ve seen Embiid is pretty matchup proof and can put up a ton of FPs in a hurry. Love his floor and upside tonight. Tobias Harris is about as safe as they come when it comes to a FP floor, and he’ll have a ton of upside if Embiid were to miss this game. Ben Simmons would be the biggest beneficiary of Embiid missing this game, as he will be more involved offensively. Seth Curry presents a decent value option, as does Shake Milton off the bench, as he has become a great scorer for this Sixers team this year.
For the Pacers, the top dog on this offense is Domantas Sabonis as he has been great all year long, but the matchup is a difficult one here, he’ll see a nice boost if Embiid is out. Myles Turner has been having an insane defensive year, and he’s a better play on FanDuel where steals and blocks are worth 3 FPs. Malcolm Brogdon has been a model of consistency so far this year, but the matchup leaves a lot to be desired here with Ben Simmons’ length on the defensive end. Doug McDermott is a GTD here, and if he misses it’ll open up a lot of 2nd team usage for T.J. McConnell who has been quietly crushing in the minutes he’s been getting. Jeremy Lamb is also getting ramped back up after coming back from his injury, but he’s a decent price on both sites
5-star play: Joel Embiid, Domantas Sabonis
4-star play: Malcolm Brogdon, Tobias Harris, Ben Simmons, Myles Turner
Deeper Value: T.J. McConnell, Shake Milton, Jeremy Lamb
GPP Sleeper: Shake Milton
Orlando Magic @ Toronto Raptors
Vegas Total: TBD
Vegas Spread: TBD
Finally, a game that we can get excited about, unfortunately it is on the other side of the ball here. Nikola Vucevic is the top dog here for this Magic team, as he’s been their anchor offensively all year long. Aaron Gordon comes in 2nd, but his consistency issues are still plaguing him. Cole Anthony has been thriving in the PG role for the Magic so far with Fultz done for the year, and he doesn’t break the bank tonight. Terrence Ross is always in play for GPPs with his scoring ability, as he has immense upside when his shot is falling as he dominates usage with that 2nd unit. Evan Fournier can also get hot, and this Raptors team isn’t what they were defensively from last year.
Now for the Raptors, the news here is that Norman Powell is doubtful, and OG Anunoby has already been ruled out for this game, so this would open up some value here. The biggest beneficiary of both of those guys missing this game is going to be Pascal Siakam as he should be forced into playing a ton of minutes here, and the Magic aren’t great defensively without Jonathan Isaac. Fred VanVleet and Kyle Lowry also see a nice boost as both of them will be forced into even bigger roles, with my favorite being VanVleet. Chris Boucher has cooled off a bit, but he is firmly in play here as he has immense upside as he’s shown, and he’ll be virtually their whole offense with the 2nd unit with Powell out. Terence Davis should also see around 20-25 minutes here, and at his price he can make a lot of things work with your lineups, but he needs Powell to officialy be ruled out in order to be viable.
5-star play: Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet, Nikola Vucevic
4-star play: Aaron Gordon, Kyle Lowry, Evan Fournier, Cole Anthony, Chris Boucher
Deeper Value: Terence Davis, Cole Anthony
GPP Sleeper: Terance Davis
Brooklyn Nets @ Washington Wizards
Vegas Total: TBD
Vegas Spread: TBD
For the Nets, the big news hinges on James Harden, as he is GTD with a thigh contusion. If he is out, it’ll be hard to pass up on both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving as they’ll both dominate usage with those starters, but if he is in, it puts a damper on both of them. If Harden is indeed out, it’ll make Bruce Brown likely the best value play on this slate at his price, and it’ll also open up a few more shots for Joe Harris. If you’re looking to get a little different, DeAndre Jordan has a nice matchup here, as the Wizards get killed by bigs inside.
For the Wizards, Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal are going to anchor this offense, as Beal is averaging just under 35 actual points per game, and he gets another great matchup here as this should be a high scoring game, and the Wizards have shown the ability to keep up in these types of shootouts. Ish Smith makes for an interesting play here with Neto ruled out already, as he’ll anchor that 2nd team. I’ll also have a few shares of Moe Wagner as his minutes should ramp up a bit here, as he’s shown he has immense upside when given the minutes and this Brooklyn team plays 0 defense. Rui Hachimura is back as well, and he becomes a viable option on this offense as well.
5-star play: Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Bradley Beal, Russell Westbrook
4-star play: Rui Hachimura, DeAndre Jordan
Deeper Value: Bruce Brown (if Harden is out)
GPP Sleeper: Bruce Brown (if Harden is out)
Cleveland Cavaliers @ Minnesota Timberwolves
Vegas Total: 218
Vegas Spread: Cle -3.5
For the Cavaliers, this is a great spot as the Timberwolves are one of the worst defenses in the league, so this is a prime spot for Collin Sexton as him and Andre Drummond have both been anchoring this Cavaliers offense. Drummond in particular also gets a great matchup with KAT still being ruled out and Naz Reid being doubtful. Darius Garland is also in play here as he is back in the starting role and his price has come down quite a bit. If Larry Nance misses this game again, I’ll have a few shares of Jarrett Allen as well, as this game could also blowout and he’s been super efficient so far this year.
For the Timberwolves, they are once again plagued by injuries, and tonight is no exception. KAT has already been ruled out and Naz Reid is a GTD. D’Angelo Russell is a great play here, as he’ll have all the usage with the 1st team and if Rubio is out again he’ll be a really great play. Malik Beasley is in play once again here, as he’ll shoulder the load offensively along with Russell. I like Anthony Edwards coming off the bench here as well, as he’s been heating up after taking a few weeks to adjust to the NBA. Jarred Vanderbilt would also be a great play if Naz is out again, and it’ll open up minutes for Ed Davis as well. Overall this is definitely a game to target.
5-star play: Collin Sexton, D’Angelo Russell
4-star play: Andre Drummond, Darius Garland, Malik Beasley, Anthony Edwards
Deeper Value: Jarrett Allen, Jarred Vanderbilt, Ed Davis
GPP Sleeper: Jarrett Allen
NBA Lock of the Day:
Pascal Siakam (FD: $7,500 DK: $7,600)
With OG Anunoby already ruled out, and Norman Powell doubtful, Pascal Siakam sees a 5% usage increase and averages over a FPPM for the Raptors. He will also be forced to play close to 40 minutes in this game, I think he has a floor of about 40 FPs with upside for 50+ here as the Magic don’t have anyone that can guard him.
