New York Knicks @ Charlotte Hornets

Vegas Total: 211

Vegas Spread: Cha -4.5

We kick the day off with the New York Knicks. It’s hard to stomach the price on Julius Randle but the production has more than justified it. He’s pretty safe as well due to the number of minutes he’s getting. The Hornets won’t really have any sort of answer for him in the paint, he’s an elite option here. I don’t love the price on RJ Barrett, and it’s a similarly tough matchup for him. That said, he’s going to continue to play around 40 minutes per game and it’s hard for me to ignore a guy that’s going to be out there that much. Alec Burks is out again here so Elfrid Payton is in play and has triple-double upside every time he steps on the court. From the Hornets, Gordon Hayward came down to Earth last game against the Hawks, his price is pretty elevated and on a pretty decent sized slate, I don’t see myself getting here much. LaMelo Ball might just be the best player on this team, he dropped a 61 point triple-double last time out, I’m okay going right back to him here, it seems like his minutes are pretty locked in. Terry Rozier and Devonte’ Graham just aren’t guys I’ve been playing a whole lot this season. It’s a pretty loaded backcourt with these two guys and Ball, but you can get to them in GPPs. Lastly, the big men. Bismack Biyomobo is a fine option in his price range but PJ Washington has more upside in this matchup.

5-star play: Julius Randle

4-star play: RJ Barrett, Elfrid Payton, LaMelo Ball, Bismack Biyombo

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: RJ Barrett, Mitchell Robinson, Terry Rozier, Devonte’ Graham, PJ Washington

Memphis Grizzlies @ Cleveland Cavaliers

Vegas Total: 218.5

Vegas Spread: Cle -2.5

Starting with the Grizzlies, Jonas Valanciunas left the last game due to Covid concerns but sounds like he’s good to go in this one. It’s a nice matchup for him, Drummond on defense doesn’t worry me all that much. Kyle Anderson is priced for the production he had earlier this season, he’s been consistently around 25 points lately, so he’s not really in play for me right now. Dillon Brooks is a solid option as well with Ja Morant continued to be out, I like the matchup for him in this one. Brandon Clarke is coming off one of the better games of his career going for 45 DraftKings points last time out. I don’t hate going back to him in a good matchup either. I think De’Anthony Melton is the point guard I want in this backcourt due to his sub $4k price tag. He’s had back-to-back games with at least 20 fantasy points and is too cheap right now. From the Cavaliers, Andre Drummond had one of those big games we’ve been waiting for last time out going for 63 DraftKings points. His price has now come up to over $9k, I’m still okay with him at that price tag. Darius Garland is going to be out again here while Collin Sexton is questionable. If Sexton plays he’s going to be a guy you can get to, just keep an eye on any sort of minutes restriction. Larry Nance continues to play huge minutes but we haven’t seen that normal ceiling that we usually see from him this year, he’s more of a GPP guy. Lastly, Cedi Osman had a down game last time out, but will likely be in for another heavy workload if they’re shorthanded again.

5-star play: Andre Drummond

4-star play: Jonas Valanciunas, Dillon Brooks, Brandon Clarke, Collin Sexton

Deeper Value: De’Anthony Melton

GPP Sleeper: Cedi Osman, Brandon Clarke

Milwaukee Bucks @ Orlando Magic

Vegas Total: NA

Vegas Spread: NA

Starting with the Bucks, it sounds like Giannis Antetokounmpo is probable here so he should be good to go. He bounced back last game and is seeing more minutes this season, with 31.2 per game even with quite a bit of blowouts. He’s an elite raw option if we end up with some value which I think we will. Khris Middleton has started the season on fire, and he honestly looks like one of the better scorers in the league outside of the paint. I like him in GPPs, it’s tough for him just because of the usage that Giannis demands. Jrue Holiday’s price went up and is around a 19% usage rate on the season, I don’t mind him in all formats, he can stuff the stat sheet. He’s looked great over his past couple of games. Lastly Brook Lopez and Donte DiVincenzo make sense for GPPs, DiVincenzo looks like the real deal but has been volatile as well. You can make a case for Bobby Portis who is going to see backup center minutes along with a lot of usage in that second unit, he’s also blowout proof which helps in this matchup. From the Magic, I like getting some Nikola Vucevic here, he absolutely crushed the Bucks in the bubble last season hitting three after three after three. That’s what the Bucks are willing to give up, so I like him quite a bit. Terrence Ross is a guy that is more GPP more times than not due to his scoring dependency, but in a pace up spot for them, he’s a nice option. Aaron Gordon saw a season-high in minutes last game and similar to Ross, I like targeting him in pace up spots so I like getting back to him here. Markelle Fultz will be out for the rest of the season which opens the door for rookie Cole Anthony to show what he’s got. He got back into the low 30 range for minutes last game but just hasn’t produced enough to warrant this price tag.

5-star play: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Vucevic

4-star play: Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday, Aaron Gordon

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: Jrue Holiday, Donte DiVincenzo, Brook Lopez, Bobby Portis, Terrence Ross

Phoenix Suns @ Washington Wizards

Vegas Total: NA

Vegas Spread: NA

Starting with the Suns, Devin Booker is just overpriced right now plain and simple, he did get over 40 fantasy points last time out and I love the matchup against a bad defensive team, but I just can’t pay for him right now. DeAndre Ayton has been pretty solid as of late and this is a price point I do like on him. It’s a pretty good matchup for him especially with Thomas Bryant now out for the Wizards. Chris Paul doesn’t have a bad price tag and is someone I think you can get to as a secondary option here. Lastly, Mikal Bridges is viable in all formats if you need a guy in that price range given how tough forward can be on a daily basis. From the Wizards, it looks like Russell Westbrook will be out here while Thomas Bryant will be out for the season as mentioned. With Westbrook and Bryant off the court this season, here is how the rest of the team fares:

  • Bradley Beal – 43.2% usage rate; 1.82 fpm
  • Davis Bertans – 17.6% usage rate; 0.69 fpm
  • Rui Hachimura – 25.9% usage rate; 0.94 fpm

It’s a small sample size for these guys, but Beal is the obvious option and an elite one on this slate. I do like Rui Hachimura as well, he may get some run at the five in small lineups for the Wizards. Lastly, Raul Neto and Ish Smith will take over the point guard duties while Westbrook is out here.

5-star play: Bradley Beal

4-star play: Chris Paul, DeAndre Ayton, Davis Bertans, Rui Hachimura

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: Devin Booker, Mikal Bridges, Raul Neto, Ish Smith

Philadelphia 76ers @ Atlanta Hawks

Vegas Total: NA

Vegas Spread: Atl -7.0

We’ll start with the Sixers who sound like they’ll be pretty shorthanded here. Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris, Seth Curry, and Shake Milton will all be out here after they didn’t make the trip to Atlanta. Meaning Joel Embiid is going to be a guy that you can expect to get a ton of looks. If we go back to last season, Joel Embiid has a 37% usage rate and 1.6 fantasy points per minute with Simmons and Harris off the court. In an excellent matchup against the Hawks, he’s hard to ignore. Tyrese Maxey had a career game last time out going for 61 DraftKings points, I think you can expect him to start again here, and is a solid option even at an elevated price tag. Dakota Mathias saw 41 minutes in that game as well but wasn’t quite as productive, he’s still a fine value option. The same can be said for Isaiah Joe. From Atlanta, Trae Young has had back-to-back down games, with the Sixers so banged up you can go right back to Trae here especially for GPPs. Clint Capela feels like a safer center option now that he’s getting good minutes, a matchup with Embiid doesn’t exactly worry me either. John Collins is really volatile right now, he’s hard to trust in cash games but we know he has a massive ceiling which puts him firmly in play for GPPs. Bogdan Bogdanovic is going to miss some time here which will open up minutes for guys like Cam Reddish and Kevin Huerter. Lastly, De’Andre Hunter is underpriced for the production he is putting up, he’s not the safest play ever, but the game logs are really enticing at the very least.

5-star play: Joel Embiid, Trae Young

4-star play: John Collins, Clint Capela, Tyrese Maxey, De’Andre Hunter

Deeper Value: Isaiah Joe, Dakota Mathias

GPP Sleeper: John Collins, Trae Young, Tyrese Maxey, Cam Reddish, Kevin Huerter

New Orleans Pelicans @ Dallas Mavericks

Vegas Total: 218.5

Vegas Spread: Dal -4.5

Starting with the Pelicans, Brandon Ingram now has four straight games with at least 40 DraftKings points. This is a nice matchup for him so I don’t hate paying up for him here. I do like the price tag on Zion Williamson, the Mavs don’t exactly have a great frontcourt so I think this is a spot we can attack them here. Lonzo Ball hasn’t been very good as of late, this is a good matchup for him but with so much usage to go around in this offense, he’s more of a GPP option. Lastly, Eric Bledsoe is similar to Lonzo in that he’s a fine GPP option, but he’s going to volatile this season due to all the usage demanded in this offense by guys like Zion, Ingram, Hart, and Lonzo. From the Mavericks, the big news here is that Kristaps Porzingis is questionable here. I don’t think it matters much due to him likely being on a pitch count but something to monitor going forward. Luka Doncic had a “down” game if you can call 57 DraftKings points down. But they’re going to be without a couple of guys again here so he’ll be asked to pick up more of the workload. Willie Cauley-Stein has seen a bit of a role increase lately and has always been a pretty good per-minute producer, I like him at this price tag. Josh Richardson and Dorian Finney-Smith will be out here due to Covid protocols so that will open up some opportunity on the wing for guys like Tim Hardaway and Trey Burke. Burke dropped 40 DraftKings points in just 21 minutes of action last time out due to shooting 7-8 from three, I don’t expect that again but he’s a good low-end option.

5-star play: Brandon Ingram, Luka Doncic

4-star play: Zion Williamson, Lonzo Ball, Eric Bledsoe, Tim Hardaway, Trey Burke

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: Willie Cauley-Stein, Lonzo Ball, Steven Adams

Indiana Pacers @ Sacramento Kings

Vegas Total: 228

Vegas Spread: Ind -4.0

Starting with the Pacers, Domantas Sabonis continues to play well, coming off a 60 point fantasy night. The Kings shouldn’t give him much trouble down low, he’s a nice option here. Myles Turner is in a similar spot, but we kind of know what we’re getting with him, if he gets hot from three he’ll have a solid night. Malcolm Brogdon is on a heater right now and has at least 50 DraftKings points in three of his last four. It’s a great matchup for him even at an elevated price tag. Victor Oladipo looks actually pretty good this season but is taking away usage from the rest of these guys. That said, he looks to be getting back to his old self and is someone I don’t hate for tournaments. TJ Warren will be out for a while, opening up usage for these other starters, here’s how they play out:

  • Domantas Sabonis – 24.7% usage rate; 1.31 fpm
  • Malcolm Brogdon – 21.5% usage rate; 1.15 fpm
  • Victor Oladipo – 27.0% usage rate; 1.10 fpm

All these guys are great options here, I don’t think there’s a bench guy that will come and start for him that would jump off the page to me. It will be a combination of Justin Holiday and Aaron Holiday. From the Kings, De’Aaron Fox had his minutes limited to 25 last night as he came into the game questionable. I would expect he’s back up near 30 here but the Pacers do play good defense so I’ll likely go elsewhere on this one. Buddy Hield is listed as questionable here, so keep an eye out for that news, if he’s forced to miss guys like Harrison Barnes, Nemanja Bjelica, and Marvin Bagley would see a boost in opportunity. Lastly, Tyrese Haliburton is cookin’ right now, his price tag has come up but he’s seeing around 30 minutes per game and showing why he should have been a top pick in the draft.

5-star play: Domantas Sabonis, Malcolm Brogdon

4-star play: Victor Oladipo, Myles Turner, De’Aaron Fox, Harrison Barnes, Tyrese Hailburton

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: Buddy Hield, Marvin Bagley, Myles Turner

Toronto Raptors @ Portland Trailblazers

Vegas Total: 233.5

Vegas Spread: Por -4.0

Starting with the Raptors, Pascal Siakam has been good over his past three games and now in a good matchup with one of the worse defensive groups in the league. Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet are pretty similar plays here, they’re both getting big minutes and they’re priced very similarly. VanVleet has shown the higher ceiling as of late and has at least 50 DraftKings points in three of his five four games, so if you’re picking one, he’s the guy. OG Anunoby has seen his production fall off a bit after starting the season pretty hot. You can get to him here in a good matchup. The only issue with him at this price is he really needs to shoot well to hit value. He does rack up some peripherals on defense though that do give you an out and some upside. Lastly, Chris Boucher appears to have grabbed the center minutes for this team, he’s a nice point per minute player and someone I don’t hate getting to in a good matchup. From the Blazers, CJ McCollum bounced back last time out to go for a 50 point DraftKings game. I just cannot pull the trigger on playing him at this price tag but if you want to, I get it. Damian Lillard had a dud of a game last time out after going crazy the game before. Any time he’s under $10k I’ll have some interest. Jusuf Nurkic has been more consistent as of late and in a great matchup against the Raptors who are much less dominant on defense with Ibaka and Gasol out of town, I like going right back to the Nurkic well. Robert Covington and Derrick Jones Jr. are GPP guys who have been really volatile this season. Lastly, Carmelo Anthony has seen his minutes come down a bit but he’s still producing pretty good, I don’t HATE him for GPPs.

5-star play: Damian Lillard

4-star play: Pascal Siakam, Kyle Lowry, Chris Boucher, Fred VanVleet, CJ McCollum, Jusuf Nurkic

Deeper Value: Derrick Jones Jr.

GPP Sleeper: OG Anunoby, Robert Covington, Carmelo Anthony

NBA Lock of the Day: Tyrese Maxey (DK – $4.7k; FD – $5.2k)

As I mentioned with the Sixers, they’re going to be really shorthanded again with Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Tobias Harris, and Shake Milton all out tonight. We saw Mr. Tyrese Maxey have a day last time out going for 61 DraftKings points in 44 minutes. I would expect him to start again here with all these guys out and play massive minutes. Not only that, but I love the game environment with the Hawks who aren’t playing a whole lot of defense this season. The Research Station below has him projected for 33.6 fantasy points which would put him at 7.15x his DraftKings price tag. Tweet me (@MadnessDFS) your lock predictions and if your player gets over 5x tonight I’ll give you a shoutout on Twitter, let’s have some fun with this!
